Can Giordano be the first 35+ yo D since Lidstrom to hit 55pts? UPD: Can he break the 35+ D record?

Better according to who?
the standard set in the title of the thread, number of points.
the scoring pace this season is very high, so we probably have to readjust our ideas of just how special certain numbers are. for better or worse we are seeing an era adjustment happen before our eyes.

Have you looked at the d-man scoring race in the last little while?

Burns is almost 34 so... not that big of an accomplishment.
and then you can make a similar thread in March 2020.

Burns is 33, turning 34 in March. Thread says 35+. This is the equivalent of somebody doing a thread of players over 30 and somebody popping in with a player that's 28.

After March 2, Gio's number will be the next one they hang from the rafters in the Saddledome. Remarkable story.

Yet Giordano is the better defenseman.

I’m expecting Burns to score at a high PPG, that’s not outside the norm. 40-50 point Giordano has surpassed his totals and looks to be heading for 70-80 points when all is said and done. Top that off with one of the best defensive games in the league.

Why aren't you guys just running away with the division and the league since the Flames have the best everything??

sorry that another player doing better at a similar age renders the story of yours not as compelling. it happens.
i was honestly thinking the same thing,

still though, Gio having a great year and will probably get some norris votes as well !

The Flames are first in the conference. They'd probably be right up there with Tampa if Mike Smith hadn't cost them a bunch of games.

Not sure what you qualify as running away. But they have a 6 point lead on the SJS who are playing very good hockey. That translates into about a 10 point lead over the full season.

Giordano has 52 points in 48 games and Burns has 52 points in 48 games, not sure how you can say Burns is doing better if you're referring to production. Both are having excellent seasons.

It translates into 3 games in January. Those teams still have 2 head to head, and last season proved how critical head to head games can be.

Did Tampa leave the league?

Most of their games are against the weak Eastern Conference.

But realistically, the one thing that has kept the Flames from the President's Trophy is the shaky net-minding early on. The team is now winning games whether they show up or not, and have been gaining on Tampa of late.

Probably because James Neal and Sam Bennett are having pretty unlucky seasons and Mike Smith has struggled to stop pucks. Rittich has picked up points at a 126 pt pace, Smith only a 99 pt pace with his .888 SV%

Not that 2nd in the NHL is anything to be concerned about. Flames fans are happy if Giordano gets a Norris Trophy and no one important gets injured.

Was trying to find a tough part in your schedule and you guys only play 1 back to back between now and March 6.
