Markus Naslund - Elias Pettersson - Pavel Bure
Greg Adams - Igor Larionov - Alex Mogilny
Darcy Rota - Thomas Gradin - Stan Smyl
Martin Gelinas - Cliff Ronning - Trevor Linden

Mattias Ohlund - Paul Reinhart
Jyrkki Lumme - Dave Babych
Harold Snepsts - Garth Butcher

Kirk McLean
Jakob Markstrom

I like this team alot but Igor sadly was not a very good Canuck and I would put Gary Lupul or Andre Boudrias at center or heck even Boldirev or Mike Walton.

Also skip Rota and keep the line intact and put Curt Fraser on there for F***s sake.

Also Gary Suitcase Smith or King Richard in net...probably Richard....

On the back end those 6 would be my 6 but let us grab an extra guy and put in Rick Lanz as the 7th Dman and Tiger Williams as the extra forward.

Now that I think about it I would drop Mogilny (not really sure how he could be anyone's favorite he was so frustrating) and with some liberties to position put Dogface Geoff Courtnall on RW.

Or better yet Gino.

Thank God no one has put Moose down yet and even if some clown does it will be due to extra curricular activities or some sad mental illness no doubt.

Going back to my original point Igor can stay....only so much room.

@MatthewMurdock 's Kesler/Miller thread got me thinking about the greatest Canucks lineup of all-time, and so I did a search and came across this (apologies in advance mods if it would have been more appropriate of me to create a new thread; I wasn't sure of the protocol and so I figured bumping this would be the lesser of two evils). Here's my lines:

Forwards:

Miller-Linden-Bure
(Miller = creates space + playmaker; Linden defensive conscience; Bure = sniper)

Sedin-Sedin-Smyl (Sedins = cycle; Steamer = hard-nosed mother f'cker full of piss and vinegar; drives the net)

Pettersson-Kesler-Mogilny (Pettersson = playmaker/sniper; playmaker; finisher; Kesler = two way beast + creates space; Mogilny = playmaker/sniper)

Naslund-Ronning-Bertuzzi (Naslund and Bertuzzi work their magic with Ronning being the the playmaker, grinder, and possible defensive conscience (I don't know if Ronning would be considered excellent on the defensive side of things. I don't recall him being a liability, was but defense his strong suit? Was Gradin better defensively? If so then maybe slot Gradin here instead).

Gradin (or Ronning)

Some other thoughts: Since Bertuzzi and Naslund often struggled in the playoffs while Kesler excelled, maybe you could put Kesler with Naslund and Bertuzzi to get them going. Kesler's defensive play would also be a welcome addition to this line.

Defense:

Building the defense was the most difficult part for me since there are so many options. I decided to try and pick our two greatest offensive defensemen (Hughes and Jovo-Cop), while having our best shut down d-men somewhere in the line-up (Hamhuis and Mitchell). Salo had the best cannon from the point and so he gets in, while Alex Edler was likely our best all-situations two-way dman that we've ever had. It's very tough leave of Lumme and Reinhart here, but who comes out? Anyways, I believe this defense has it all. Size, back-end mobility, PK options, ability to exit the zone with ease, PP options, etc.

Hughes-Tanev

Mitchell-Jovanovski

Edler-Salo

Hamhuis

Goaltending:

I went with our greatest goalie of all-time (statistically) and most talented goalie of all-time in Roberto Luongo. As his back-up, I went with the calm veteran who raised his game to insane levels when it mattered most (McLean). McLean could be the perfect calming influence to our most talented goalie that sometimes developed "the yips" when it mattered most.

Can only speak to players from my generation of watching 2007 onwards. My honorable mentions are a mix of close candidates and personal favorites.

2011 Daniel - 2010 Henrik - 2011 Burrows
2022 Miller - 2011 Kesler - Second half of 2022 Pettersson
2010 Raymond - 2020 Bubble Horvat - Rookie Boeser
2022 Motte - 2011 Malhotra - 2012 Hansen
13th F - 2015 Nick Bonino

HMs: Post-surgery Dorsett was an animal for a handful of games, Brad Richardson (2015), Samuelsson, Torres, Higgy, 2015 Santorelli, Gaunce every year ever, RYP/Demitra (RIP), Laps, Welwood

Hamhuis - Bieksa (their pairing from the golden years)
Edler - Tanev (their pairing from 2015-2019)
Hughes - Ehrhoff (eat all them easy minutes and score a billion five on five goals - can be split up if need be)
Depth D: Mitchell - Salo

HMs: Ohlund, Garrison, Sopel, Stecher, Biega, Stanton

2007 Luongo
2022 Demko

HMs: Schneider was insane, but never racked up enough GPs. Still think Jersey rinsed us in that trade from a foresight, in the moment perspective (please don’t respond to this), 2020 Markstrom, 2014 Lack, Labarbera whatever year he played, Spencer Martin 2022

I find that the intensity and purity of emotional attachment happens somewhere childhood meets team success, so I expect this will be a good study in that.
