It’s proven to be a pretty great strategy for teams to assume some risk upfront but then reap the benefits pretty immediately after.

If Dahlin takes a hometown discount as well the Sabres can make some noise with a big name UFA/Trade+Extend and not destroy their salary structure with the cap increases coming next few years.

That's actually really good cap management. Under 20 million for two legit top 6 centres and a #1 dman is a great way to start. If they can get a good goalie for under 7 Buffalo is gonna be scary.

1C, 2C, 1D, 1G combined for 25 million would be outstanding.

Especially if the Cap goes up by 10 mill over the next 3 years
