Years ago, the B's signed, what I think was an aging ex Flyer. Everyone knew he was toast. Can't recall his name. Everyone said don't worry, he isn't playing, just here to put pressure on the kids. Next thing you know he is in the starting line up. Played like 30 games and did nothing, then I think his father got sick, and he left the team.

Just hoping this isn't more of the same.

My one and only fear regarding Stempniak is him actually being in the line-up of the Boston Bruins.

It's the same thing, though, isn't it? If the Bruins acquire a Top6 RW, there is no place for Stempniak to even get a sniff of the NHL roster unless the worst injury crisis known to the NHL hits us. WIthout that acquisition, the ? around somebody that can put the puck in the net *might* lead the Bruins to think "why not try Stempniak there?"

Maybe so they can keep guys like that, and other prospects, in the AHL for their playoffs?

Which is more important?

A) The Boston Bruins playoffs

B) The Providence Bruins playoffs

I'm going to say A is more important.

Carey isn't a prospect, neither is Gemel Smith.

Both better options, by far, than Stempniak.

We should have signed him out of camp he'd have done better than Backes.

IDK why I was the only one last year reacting this way to the Gionta signing I was furious I guess everyone missed the Olympics when he stunk it up. Its only 2 years ago he was playing like a first liner (when Backes was already looking like a third liner.)

But trust me I get the frustration see my posts a year ago about Gionta.

I like Stempniak and he is capable of scoring some points .But he is not the top 6 answer and neither is Coyle.Praying Bruins address that.

I don't want him in the line-up. I got by my count 10 guys in Providence I'd use before him.

Stempniak will get NHL game time before the playoffs, mark it down.

You'd rather they just not even have the temptation there- like the alcoholic not keeping a whiskey bottle stashed under the sink just in case, cause it will get consumed. I get it. I hope the Bruins are smarter than that, but you might be right.

What else is new?

Seriously: Simmonds now is not the Simmonds people would think we're getting if we got him. Huge "NO" on this guy from me in no uncertain terms

Here, you can use some of mine. I rarely use them:

Yes, exactly this. I love this analogy. The Bruins just can't help themselves when it comes to this kind of player.

Simon Gagne. Four seasons ago. He was, in fact, cooked.

Step 1- Guys, don't worry, it is only an AHL signing! He won't be playing with Boston
Step 2- 4 AHL games later signs with Boston
Step 3- Guys, don't worry, it's a depth signing! He won't play with Boston!
Does anyone know what step four is?

Bruins recall Stempniak from Providence, Cassidy said he expects him to start the game lining up next to Krejci and Debrusk.

No shock on this one, surprised it took this long to be honest. Great guy to have on the bus in Providence, and a solid add to the big squad during the playoffs if needed. No risk at all. Great pickup. Adding depth for a playoff run is never a bad thing.

He was on a PTO, but he signed a one-way. He'll be in Boston tomorrow.

That’s just salary, though. He can play in Boston or Providence regardless of one-way or two-way deals.

Just a smart move to insure some depth down the stretch if need be. Maybe this gives them flexibility to trade someone or move some guys around. Either way, it doesn't cost any assets and he’s been playing well for Providence.
