Meh. Craig Button has a nice brand...but he is anything but a genius. Also, how many contenders have prospects on this list? Tampa, Florida, Colorado, Pittsburgh have zero as well. Washington and Islanders have one each. I'd rather contend every year than have a sexy prospect pool.

If I were you, I would be thankful you're not an Ottawa fan. Imagine being firmly in the basement and only have two elite prospects to show for it.

The "genius" had his share of oops moments as a GM when it came to young talent. At any rate, not sure how a top 50 is that meaningful with 32 teams in the league and a few that have more than two on that list(and how successful are those teams these days?).

Still hoping Fabien Lysell getting underrated (not making this list) helps the Bruins.

That said, handful of guys on that list that were in reach for the Bruins to have grabbed via draft. Let's see how it works out. Recent history shows the Bruins are getting a little better... but track record

Don't care if he makes any lists; but if we can get a hit on him, 60 pts in 50 games in the WHL ain't too shabby.

Fan favorite Mike Reilly was #29 on his 2015 list. Moved up to 14 the following year. Not as bad as Sam Reinhart being #2, but still..

From 2015-2018, the Bruins had 3 players on Button's list - Charlie McAvoy, Zach Senyshyn (twice) and Ryan Donato.

Bruins NHLers he whiffed on include Brandon Carlo, Dan Vladar, Jake DeBrusk, Ryan Lindgren, Trent Frederic and Jeremy Swayman.

It kind of kills me looking at some of the missed opportunities to draft a top center in the last 5 years. Even leaving aside the Matt Barzal debacle in 2015, we had a chance to draft Robert Thomas or Josh Norris in 2017 - better prospects at a higher need position - and instead drafted Vaakanainen. While I like Fabian Lysell, Wyatt Johnston went two picks later and looks like an absolute stud 6'2 center. There has just been a complete failure in this organization to recognize the need to draft and develop replacements for Krejci and Bergeron.

I don’t think Trent frederic was a miss on that list .

How did you get to this?
He didn’t even get a contract to burn a year as a first round pick, does that usually happen?

I like his physical tools but there is nothing to indicate he will be able to score at any type of clip?

This is the list that’s great if your players are on it and it stinks when they aren’t. I am assuming this list stinks.

Welcome to the Jungle

I was thinking about Zach Senyshyn, a prospect I held onto for too long. I believed in the process when they took the young Powerforward and tied him to a 200' role.

Do we take the 200' player and now force him to develop his game in the top 6 so that he can develop his skill. Know that I love the Bruins and I believe in the totality of their approach but sometimes you just have to ask.

It's a pretty typical Craig Button list. Bizarre. He had Wyatt Johnston as a third round pick going into the draft last year and now he's the 9th best prospect in the game? He's obviously having a great year but he has him at NINE. Ahead of Marco Rossi. And Brandt Clarke (whom he rated 2 going into the draft and has had a strong year.) He's higher than Eklund, Holtz, Luke Hughes. I have a feeling this list is going to be a bit of an outlier.

Also - another note on Wyatt Johnston. Let's not do what I see happening in this thread. Let's not act like we were all disappointed that the Bruins didn't pick Johnston with their first round pick. NO ONE had him rated that high. He's blown up this year but people were a bit surprised at Dallas picking him at 23. I've seen this happen a couple of times when discussing Lysell recently. He was the scratch player at that point who has had a really strong draft + 1 season. That another guy behind him has improved should not be an indictment or a reason to revise history.

I like that he admits if hes wrong and moves a guy up. Id rather that vs continuing to stubbornly be wrong. I do find it a bit odd lysell isnt there as he (to me) has probably treaded water this year in terms of his projection going into the draft. But maybe its those character flaws that got brought up that scared him off putting him on his list? Not sure. Either way if lysell is out of buttons favor id he hardpressed to think of a bruins prospect worth considering in the top 50. And even if lysell made it where i think he should have, he would still have been in the late 30s/early 40s. So its not like he left a top 10 player on the floor. He just liked 10 players more than him than what i would think most would. Not completely bizarre.

If boston had like 4 guys that could make a case to be on the list and button counted 0, id say maybe theres a weird anti bruins thing. But boston only has one (maybe 2) legit prospect, so leaving the one off, hardly a conspiracy.

That said , pretty sure if Craig Button was drafting for us instead of Sweeney we’d be in dramatically better shape going forward than we’re in now

Granted he bumdled things around a little bit when he was GM but that was a hell of a long time ago and he sure seems to have learned from his errors . Nobody is perfect when it comes to drafting especially when you create a top 50 list but I find his list pretty damn comprehensive

No one has had more mean things said about them on HF then Craig Button
