Hey, does Kevin Dineen have a job?

If not, let's offer him one.

Can't be any worse. At least the guy held his team accountable.

I'd rather not dig through the Panthers trash again.

I thought he was one of their better coaches.

If he could do half with this group as he did with the women's Team Canada we'd be doing alright. At least the guy had a sense of urgency and fire.

I think we need to figure out what direction we're going first. Do we want to go with a younger coach to work with the kids, or a more experienced coach to get the most out of the vets? Our roster is kind of a weird mix of really old and really young.

Could get Lemaire again, he's known for being able to blend both properly, but I wouldn't think he'd do it again.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many times we can go back to that well. He did lay some good groundwork after the MacLean debacle that helped the following season. Of course we still had Kovalchuk and Parise back then.:(

The problem is the Devils have more or less a group of rookie defenseman who aren't exactly playing with Scott Stevens and Dano. And a group of forwards except for 3 or 4 players who should retire and no back-up goaltender.

We MUST WIN tonight to stay in a competitive area in the standings. We are slowly but surely falling behind and we all know how a few losses makes a world a difference in this sport

Sell any vets of value at the deadline or before for draft picks.

Win draft lottery.

Acquire McEichel.

Win.

(Yes, I am kidding. But the state of the Devils is not good right now.)

I don't know how Lou thought he could make us a good team by bringing in ever player that every other team disposed of. We need to throw in this season get a #1 draft pick and build a team around him. It's the only way we will ever be good again.

Cammalleri wasn't disposed of, he was sought after by several teams but liked that Lou had bee pursuing him for years. He's probably our best overall player right now, but you're saying that was a bad move?

I think on paper, this team looked improved from last season overall, and we were close to the playoffs last season so you'd expect us to be in the mix this season. But as of right now - Elias is invisible, Jagr isn't quite the same, Greene hasn't stepped up, Zid is bad more than he is good, Sal looks horrific, and the young D are still learning, Henrique and Havlat are out, and I don't think our system is giving us the best chance to win (either that or guys aren't executing it well)

I'd love a top 2 pick in the draft but we probably aren't that bad. We'll draft top 10 if this continues but the player won't make an impact for a couple years. Boucher did not look close to ready in his brief stint, and I'd find it hard to believe Matteau would be any better.

A top 10 pick in this years draft will make an impact, soon to. This years draft is stacked

We're already behind and are in the same place we were last year : PLAYING CATCH-UP and the Devils are probably going to be kept out....again. :shakehead

I want to be positive about this but there's hardly anything (aside from Cammy playing well, JJ improving, and Jagr still showing some life) to be positive about.

I think we need a younger coach who is patient. That's not to say Peter is impatient but he's on a different wavelength. When he was hired, there was an emphasis placed on winning at all costs. I don't think that is the case any longer with this team. You're looking for day-to-day progress as opposed to points in the standings.

This is where it hurts to be in a non hockey market. You need media members calling this bullcrap out.

We're not in a non-traditional market - the problem is the Devils are in a small subset of a much larger market. Who else do we have besides the [Newark] Star-Ledger, which dropped the city's name years ago, and the Record? Same problem with our TV ratings, they always seem far worse because the entire metropolitan area is factored into the Nielsen DMA. Northern and central NJ make up maybe a third of the overall population of the NY metro DMA (which is by far the largest on the continent and helps support the argument that the area can support 3 teams).

So only one player played less then JJ tonight, and that was Too too.

No d-man played less then Lars.

12 minutes for lars, 18 for Sal.

There was faceoff early in the 3rd in Bostons zone, when Zids and Gelinas were the d-men. Dano made note of it. Obviously Devs saw this as an oppurtunity for some offense.

Who was taking the faceoff. The worst faceoff guy on the team of coarse. Boston wins the faceoff, quickly clears the zone, and so much for the Gelinas Zidlicky pairing.

Pretty lousy coaching going on here.

I am not entirely on the fire Pete bandwagon (although it maybe to time to buy a fare), but this stuff is absolutely damning. Such a shame, I think he has a good "Devils" personality, the players obviously respect him, and he has a good system. However, the personnel decisions are absolutely mind blowing. Not just HF armchair coaching entirely in retrospect type stuff. Anyone observing this team is well aware of the same old crap going on.

Call out the goalie, check.

Take no responsibility for awful player management, check. (How is that Sal-Zid pairing working for ya?)

What are the odds he starts the "average" goaltender, who should not be fatigued, with his back against the wall?

I don't like to admit this, but I almost smile when we're scored on yet again with this pairing on the ice. Yet just as the sun will rise in the morning, you know that Sal-Zids start the next game together and won't be broken up (maybe) until a couple goals are scored while they're on the ice.

I think some people tend to go way to far in blaming Pete DeBoer for everything, but at some point, keeping Salvador-Zidlicky together should be a fireable offense.

And give Cory a day off, already

Also not a Sal hater, but at what point does the captain need to be benched? I get the whole losing the locker room bit, but do our players have any sense of accountability? He is a major contributing factor to our string of losses and needs to be held accountable. Frankly, he should be doing it himself (especially given his overall good character), but if not Pete or Lou need to grow a pair and deal with this yesterday.

which is why that it must be imperative that they build a wildly entertaining product. It can't be the old, boring devils. That anachronism has to go. You are fighting for the hearts and minds of future customers.

You'd think that losing the locker room would be a good thing at this point. Firing Pete and waiving Sal would be the wakeup call this team needs. Lets everyone else know that this ******** won't be tolerated.

If they love Pete so much, maybe they should start freaking playing like professionals instead of this bunch of *******.

I was furious last night watching the final minutes of period two. After that horrendous goal that Griffith scored I thought "maybe sal and zid get a little bench time now" but no, they are right back out there and then Smith punishes them with a goal after Salvador's mistake at the boards. It's as if that pairing is not accountable for anything they do on the ice. Deboer needs to grow a pair. Neither one of those goals should have happened. Despite Cory being hung out to dry most of the time he is not helping the team at the moment. Griffith's shot should have never gotten past him.

Also I find it rather amusing that people can actually put the blame on Larsson for that cluster**** job by Gelinas. It is a risky pass but you have to handle it when it comes straight on the tape. He would have had time to make a play to Jagr or Cam going up the left side. Despite that, watch Larsson be a healthy scratch once Merrill is back.

That's part of the problem. How many passes are completed in each game? There hasn't been crisp passing for the last 421423213 games. It's pathetic.

I might just keep track tonight for hahas
