That's okay, he got on the puck first and made a good pass back to Tennyson which left enough time for the d to d and a dangerous point shot from Smith. With assists like that it's not that the play is spectacular, it's that if you control the puck in the offensive zone and move the puck quickly and accurately, you will accumulate medium to high danger chances and a certain number will go in.

I mean he sent the puck back to the point and they went D to D for a low danger chance and it resulted in one of the luckiest goals of all time. There's no reason to put any stock into that. It's not like it's anything he couldn't do last season which is my point. As a whole his game really wasn't good

I mean sure the points are nice but a 21% CF and 34% is super rough. I'm still super high on him.

I would like to repeat, once again, that Boston's strategy was to just completely engulf Hughes and prevent him from doing literally anything. Hughes would try to enter the zone and Boston, on multiple occasions, would send three of their best defensive players to stop him. There's not much you can do when you have 3 guys trying to prevent you from doing anything on the ice. And somehow, Hughes still got two assists. He played well today. If Hischier was in the game, Hughes would've had a lot more opportunities to show off a little and display his advanced offensive skill set.

Good to see McLeod being as active as he was...Hughes is young and needs time to develop but I thought he was more involved in all aspects of the game tonight and showed growth in his game.

I’m not sure how to describe it but Hughes looks “off” .
Like his hands and feet are going too fast for his brain. Seems on the verge of being out of control . Shows glimpses of good talent but nothing amazing . I know he is very young yet but I still don’t see anything in his game that makes me think he is going to be a legit 1c all star
No preseason, 19-years old, two assists tonight and would have had three if Travis knocked that last second shot in OT.....

He won a loose puck in the corner, had the presence of mind and patience to hold onto the puck and make a clean play that kept possession and led to a goal. Not sure if you’re expecting to see him go Harlem Globetrotters, but he’s a 19 year old playing the most important position on the ice against the Boston Bruins. Expectations are a little crazy.

Not sure what you all saw with Hughes. I saw a more physically mature player engaging players in corners and using his body. The talent will always be there and he had quite a few great plays. Enjoyed what I saw from him and thats ignoring the two points, especially after ONE GAME after a TWO WEEK camp.

I couldn't care less if he's making highlight reels plays all the time. My issue is that his underlying numbers were bad and for most of the game he looked very similar to last season. It is only one game and Palms was trash which couldn't have helped

Jack looked really bad in the first but he definitely looked much more in control and dangerous in the 3rd. I believe all of his 3 shots came in the 3rd period.

That was actually enough to ease the nerves a little bit for me. Baby steps are still steps and if we temper what we just saw with the reality of this year and this situation, I think salvaging a point and nearly winning the game multiple times in extra innings is an ok start.

Mods/whoever should add this to postgame threads going forward. From the Rangers' board:

Entire team looked bad in the 1st and played great in the 3rd and OT. Its almost like they have to shake off 10 months of rust after a two week camp with a new coach and system...

Lmao. Bryce on the postgame basically saying that Wood’s gonna be effective flying down the wing because the goalie won’t know whether Wood’s gonna shoot or run him over

Blackwood was the mvp this game. Hughes picked it up in the third and OT. Palms looked really bad. Gusev, wide open net my dude come on lol. yeezy looks great. Zacha actually had some great moments, maybe he can thrive under Ruff. But if not bottom 6 guy with top 6 talent and great on the PK isn’t bad. Boqvist looked good. McLeod looked solid and so did his line.

shootout, man gotta work on it.

smith settled in. Need to be better on faceoffs and need to control the ozone more. This game could’ve been over in the first of it wasn’t for Mack being so good.

typical wood game lol. But he scored and looked engaged. Can’t wait for Nico and Bratt to get back, team should be better than we are tracked to be.

Backhanded compliment is backhanded. :laugh::laugh::laugh:

These would be my lines

Sharangovich Hischier Bratt
Johnsson Hughes Palmieri
Zacha Zajac Gusev
Wood McLeod Bastian

Would like Boqvist rotated in the top 9 somewhere.
I’m not much of a fan of Gusev don’t think he has the skills to be a consistent top 6 point producer. Probably in the minority but I would be very happy if we traded him.

I hear ya but my concern coming into tonight was almost entirely Jack. I just feel as he goes, we go and I think he did some things tonight to make me think that looks a little better.
