'launch' might be an exaggeration ...he did have the puck, didn't see an elbow come out..does appear to be shoulder contact with the head...intentional head shot? Tough to prove.

It appears he does adjust his body in a manner that makes Sgarbossa’s head the principle point of contact. Sgarbossa stays in a pretty upright skating position throughout the play as well. I think this has to warrant some kind of suspension. McGinn could have used a simple poke check to separate the puck from Sgarbossa, who doesn’t appear to see McGinn right away.

50 pages if Wilson. Probably nothing happens. 50 games if Wilson.

Usual NHL approach

Since 2013...

Wilson: 290 penalties, 934 PIM, 206 Minor, 64 Major, 2 Match, 3 Game Misconducts, 4 suspensions.
McGinn: 26 penalties, 58 PIN, 24 Minor, 2 Major, 0 Match, 0 Game Misconducts, 0 suspensions.

You don't think there's a good reason why Wilson would be looked at differently than other players by both fans and the league? Regardless of what someone thinks of Wilson, he has repeatedly placed himself in situations worthy of scrutiny.

Take the hit. Don’t stop and pull back to try and dodge the hit. Won’t be a suspension.

Exactly. From the rulebook, a check to the head is not illegal when:

"the opponent materially changed the position of his body or head immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit in a way that significantly contributed to the head contact. "

Watch Sgarbossa's skates during this sequence. He hits the brakes after McGinn commits to the hit, attempting to jump around what would otherwise have been a hit through the body. There's no way for McGinn to adjust in that quarter-second remaining before contact. This is why players are instructed over and over NOT to try and jump around hits.

This is a pretty dumb take. Even if he takes the hit he gets lit up in a dangerous spot where he easily crashes toward the boards. This definitely should be a suspension and guys have been suspended for much less

If he didn’t see McGinn right away why was he making a move to try to go around him?

Sgarbossa was jumping laterally to avoid the hit and failed miserably.

The only way Sgarbossa ends up at the boards is if he has no control over his body whatsoever. That is not a dangerous attempt at a hit and we wouldn't even be looking at it if Sgarbossa had simply taken the contact rather than try to dance around it.

No suspension, Sagarbossa(who is that anyways?) brought that hit upon him self by pulling up after mcginn was committed to the hit. Normally that would be a beautiful open ice hip check, but stopping up like that made it a dangerous play...on himself.

Bingo, McGinn was lined up for a shoulder to shoulder collision. Still blindside so not exactly clean, but the only reason the hit has the result it does is that it appears Sagrbossa literally saw him and reacted at the last possible moment, and the end result is putting himself in a far more vulnerable position. Definitely got the penalty it deserved but anything more than a fine would be questionable from the league.

Or indicating he didn't see McGinn and was going to attack the net? Would love to see another angle of this instead of a clipped, zoomed in version that doesn't give this hit any context
But he looks right at Mcginn a couple frames earlier.

His upper body literally doesn't move at all. If he was trying to "avoid the hit" he failed miserably considering the only movement was his skates turning inward.

You realize that “turning his skates inward” means changing speed, direction, and body posture?

Go skate as fast as you can, and “turn your skates inward”. See if your torso keeps going the same direction.

I see it as Sgarbossa trying to make a hockey play himself- if he continues on his course he's being run out of the play, it's not "avoiding the hit" so much as it's trying to make a good offensive play. You're not allowed to try and make a guy miss anymore? McGinn launches upwards, that's the issue here- if he just runs through the chest or outside shoulder it's just a solid hit. I'd expect 1-2 games.

He was trying to avoid the hit, I can watch and see with my eyes, he even tries to make a move with the puck to bring it inside and jump inside. Easy to see. McGinn got in a high hit for sure, but I wasn't arguing against that.
