This will go over well.

975k AAV so he can be waived without much penalty if need be.

Charlie has a great point. 14 games of Manning and he qualifies as our exposed D-man for the expansion draft. This still allows Hextall to send MacDonald to the AHL if Provorov makes the team. So now you can expect Ghost/Gudas/Morin to be protected as D-men next year.

*Cough, cough*. I literally posted this here 2 days ago on why Manning should get 2 years. Thanks, though. ;)

Hopefully he can build on his current NHL resume of 1 goal in 83 games and generally poor defensive play.

I understand why he was signed and I know he'll be gone soon enough, but reading this headline kills my soul just a little bit.

I really wanted him to hit arbitration. Couldn't imagine what Philly brass would say about him.

$25,000 penalty this year, nothing next year.

What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.

The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.

The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:

2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000

So we can complain about Brandon Manning for two more years, yeahh!

Of all fringe NHL callups in the league Mark Alt must be one sad person right now.
And even if that means they send MacDonald down to LHV, having Manning as a #6/#7 still does not make the team any better.

Manning won't get taken in expansion. C'mon

Not with the forwards we'll have to expose (two of Read, Raffl, Weise, Cousins and Laughton), but we do need to expose at least one dman under contract for 17-18 who played 40 games in 16-17 or 70 games in 15/16 + 16/17.
