I'd like to see a little proof of this.

The best proof we have that this isn't the case is the fact no GM on our team until Chiarelli were willing to pull off a deal for the defender. The most likely scenario is that every team in the NHL knew we were desperate, and every GM we had were offering Eberle/Nuge for the defenders we desperately needed, but every GM in the league said Hall or no deal.

If there was a better deal on the table, ever, even with our incompetent GM's, I'm sure we'd have made it.

Perhaps said team executive didn't have the type of defenseman the Oilers were looking for.

Perhaps said team executive was just bitter that they lost the sweepstakes for Hall.

Interesting that he's not named. That tweet can go a lot of ways.

You asked for proof, there it is. At least one executive would have put together a better package for Hall. I find it hard to believe only one team or GM was left in the dark.

Chiarelli had tunnel vision...but I don't want to derail the thread, that's all I'm going to discuss further on it.

Wonder if we find out one day that Keith pushed Chia to get Spooner and Manning as part of a scheme to grab power :)

Maybe MacT was in on it too!

End result, MacT POHO, Gretzky GM for 19/20

Chiarelli had tunnel vision.
How many young, right-handed defenders were available in a trade at the time?
Would the Oilers have accepted a left-handed defenseman instead, or was it right or bust?

There are several factors that need to be considered. If the Oilers were trading say Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for a under 24 goalie with superstar potential today, are they calling every team in the league? or just the ones with the goalies that their scouts have identified as the ones they are targeting?

If a team put together a better package(no doubt in my mind there may have been a better package out there) but the Oilers weren't looking for a package, they were looking for the best RHD that their assets could buy, should they have taken the package instead? I guess you could argue they should have....but we'd be without our best asset and still without the best RHD that asset could buy.

Congratulations, you offered proof that one team may not have been in on the sweepstakes....provide proof that they had what the Oilers were looking for because if they didn't(likely), them not knowing is inconsequential.

No need to get snarky at the end of your post. You specifically asked for "a little bit of proof" not every team knew Hall was available, I provided it then you elected to spin it into what ifs. We will never know what teams were in the know and which ones weren't and we will never know what was offered so it's a fruitless discussion.

Chiarelli was likely locked onto Larsson the same way he was locked onto Manning and Spooner and I'm sure there's a quote somewhere from Chiarelli alluding to such. Past behaviour predicts future behaviour never held truer with him.

Again, I'm not derailing this thread any further. This is my last reply on the subject. Have a great family day :).

While I was as never big on Cags it’s been what? 6 weeks? Cags is playing with Toews and Kane now and Manning will clear waivers. Nuff said

No more buyouts. Stop crippling this team for 2 years when you can just bury him next year and save almost half of his salary.
This.

Manning would cost 1.2M against the cap in the minors next year vs having 950k and 650k buyout penalties for 2 years. For an extra 300k, you get an AHL call up for injuries.

I still think it was incredibly stupid how Chia bought-out Eric Gryba last summer. He could have been buried in the minors with zero cap penalty and we would have the extra depth on D.

Chia is actually the biggest f***ing idiot of a GM of all time

Looks more and more like Stauffer isn't just dumping bags of lye on Chiarelli's career corpse just because...these moves KG has made really signify Chiarelli put himself on an island and made these moves against everyone else's thoughts.
Bro, you cannot be serious.

We know the OBC had input (e.g. Reinhart trade) and if at some point the OBC stopped meddling and Chia just started making stupid moves on his own, that is also on the OBC for letting it get to that point.

Ridiculous. Manning is better than Gravel, Benning, and Petro yet he is the one waived. It was easy to see he was playing better the past several games he was on the ice.

I would have put him with Sekera and let them roll as the third pairing. This is a sad day for Oiler hockey.

Good luck Mandog. You deserve better than this.

None of that is remotely true. He can throw more memorable hits, but he's a much worse defensemen then all of those players, and those players will struggled to get into the line-up with Sekera back.

Waiving Manning is the only option, because Gravel is better and will probably net the team an asset in a trade, Petrovic also might get them something at the deadline and they like Benning.

Manning is just awful at the sport and just should not on this team

If he was playing so fantastic then a team should pick him up off waivers. You have nothing to worry about. Haha
