Dumb trade. Big man, great skater, doesnt play all that tough but is comparable to an Alex Ponikoravsky. Brad Ross is a terrible skater, no edge as advertised as he plays afraid in the AHL, and has a bad attidude in terms of commitment to making the NHL with his training discipline. Apparently he wants to be a golfer. Why did we make this trade

The Leafs should give him plenty of opportunity to do that. :sarcasm:

Ross isn't the same player today as he was in the dub.

It never really made any sense. Hayes was seen as somewhat gritty at the time so trading a gritty winger to draft a younger, gritty winger was pointless. Burke did it to give the scouting team a pick in the first two rounds according to his post-draft interview.

Hard to say what happened to Ross, but apparently Hayes wouldn't sign with us.

I was high on Ross, not so much anymore. Loved him in the WHL.

Also just wondering, but where did you hear Ross wanted to be a golfer? Hahah just curious.

Looked like a great player in the WHL that's for sure.

It's not like Jimmy Hayes has really done much of anything to make us regret the trade so..

Groan.... did you have to remind us? Biggs,Devanne all taken early because of Burkes desire for grit and a splash/ leaving his mark. I like to quietly forget about this trade and all the other 2nd rounders we threw away.

Ross could easily have been had in the 3rd ,Biggs in the 2nd and Devane as late as 4th or 5th round. We are really paying for this strategy now as we only have Dmen coming through the system now.

I don't have an issue with trading away Hayes, had we used the pick to draft Toffolli like I hoped we would! Oh well...

None of those statements are accurate really, but I agree Devane could of probably been taken a little later than we took him.

Rumor is Detroit (picking immediately after us) had their eye on Biggs.

For starters the Chicago Blackhawks drafted his brother Kevin Hayes in the draft of the Ross selection. At the time there was speculation that Jimmy Hayes would not sign a pro contract with us (much like Bill Sweatt). The Leafs then traded Jimmy Hayes for a 2nd round pick that turned into Brad Ross. Chicago must of felt in a position of power to sign him after recently drafting his brother. Jimmy Hayes is a fringe 3/4th liner in this league. He's a played a couple games and had some decently potential but let's not act like he's JVR

So where would Hayes fit on the Leafs at the moment? Probably nowhere. Can't play him with the Marlies either since he would be claimed off of waivers if we sent him down.

He's not significantly better the Ashton so no were. People love hindsight especially over marginal players

Who the **** is Jimmy Hayes?

Why not? Brad Ross scored 40 in junior and was a son of a *****. Awesome player. Too bad it doesn't seem to be carrying over to pro.

Neither player is thread-worthy. Of all the trades to complain about...

Captain Hindsight has entered the building

It's actually not captain hindsight at all. Burke came in and wanted to put a mini stamp on the team by clearing out random bodies he had no idea about. Paradis for Tlusty after a few months on the job, Brad Ross for Hayes, etc. He wasn't too familiar with the system but also needed to make a move during the 2010 draft when we had given up the Seguin pick.

Man Brad Ross crashed, he looked great post draft year, something like a darcy tucker lite in the WHL.

but since entering the AHL he's dissappeared.
