I dont see a way 40 goes up, even if he deserves it. The franchise is allergic to retiring goalie numbers for some unknown reason.

Maybe it was a Sinden thing?

New regime, new tendencies?

Chara, Bergeron, and Krejci should be locks. If Marchand keeps it up a few more years I think he’ll be up there too. If Rask wins a cup his number should be retired.

That's a lot of numbers off the board. I definitely agree that Chara and Bergeron are locks. After that, I don't know about Krejci and #46. O'Reilly really mucks things up when it comes to retirements because from all indications, #24 should not be hanging in the rafters. That honor should be reserved for The Best of The Best. Krejci still has some more years left, but as of right now I don't consider him a lock at all. Marchand is the same, and this coming from someone who watched Marchand as a little kid picking him out in Providence as his favorite Bruin haha.

Now, I will say that its time to implement a Bruins Hall of Fame. They're doing all these renovations to the TD Garden. Why not find a place to honor the great Bruins in history? You then reserve jersey retirements for those who truly deserve it, and can still honor those great Bruins.

I just think that Krejci’s numbers can’t be ignored. He’ll likely retire with 750+ points as a Bruin and top 5, possibly top 3 playoff scoring. That’s an all time great.

I also think Marchand is the furthest from number retirement. He would need to play at a high level for at least 3-4 more years. If Krejci has another monster playoff run or two then he should be just as much a lock as Bergeron and Chara.

So not true and very unfair to the man who exemplified what being a Bruin was all about for his entire career.

Terry O'Reilly most diffidently deserves his number up in the rafters. It isn't all about points that determines how great a players career was. O'Reilly was the heart an soul of the Boston Bruins every year he played. He battled tooth and Nail every shift and one year managed to be in the top ten in the NHL scoring race, quite the achievement for a man who played more with his heart than anything else.

Every player who ever played with or against O'Reilly would say the same and as Ray Bourque clearly put it on the day they retired his number. "Terry O'Reilly's banner hangs next to mine, protecting me again". From the mid 70's to the mid 80's O'Reilly was Boston.

To say that #24 shouldn't be hanging in the rafters is pure blasphemy.
