I don't see the point in giving Boeser a bad one-year contract in the hope he can play slightly better so we can trade him for slightly more.

If you don't believe in him and he doesn't fit the identity of the team - MOVE ON. Get what you can and re-invest in someone you like on a contract that makes more sense.

And the other thing with Boeser is that teams are not exactly lining up for soft, slow one-dimensional secondary scorers for the playoffs. This is the sort of player who is perceived to suck in the playoffs, and he did suck in the bubble playoffs.

Brock will get a good enough return. Probably more as a rental at the deadline but too late now.

His value next deadline would be as a pure playoff rental without the messy contract situation.

He could have been that this year.

And honestly, who is lining up for slow soft secondary scorers/PP specialists for the playoffs? This is why nobody wanted Vanek. Players like this aren't in demand as rentals and teams don't perceive them as being the kind of players you win with in the playoffs.

And Boeser was ass in the bubble - 2 ESG in 17 games.

Letting Boeser walk for nothing isn’t an option. Management has just said they won’t let assets walk for free. The other option is selling at or close to the bottom of his value. I’d rather spend a year that’s already earmarked as a rebuilding year to see if we can get better value. If Boeser keeps up this PP production we can sell him as a PP specialist.

Since Jan 1 Boeser’s PP production has been good amongst forwards. If he gets a full season of good PP production he can be sold at better value at next years deadline

This is just throwing more good money after bad.

They can probably get something for him this summer. It won't be huge, but it won't be huge at the deadline next year either.

Signing him long-term is what actually isn't an option, given his play this year.

Boeser is entirely propped up by PP points and EN points since January 1. He has 6 primary points at ES in his last 35 games - those are 4th line numbers, while playing 20 minutes/game next to JT Miller. He's having one of the worst offensive seasons for any 'top-6 forward' in the cap era relative to usage and linemates. He's been absolutely abysmal.
