1 goal and 2 assists for LW Zach Bolduc, who would have thought?
I believe he was just signed to a PTO either yesterday or todayBakanov reportedly had a hat trick. Still seems as though he’s unsigned. Could be a good depth option in the AHL.
Yes, he got his 3rd one with just a few seconds left in the game on a partial break.Bakanov reportedly had a hat trick. Still seems as though he’s unsigned. Could be a good depth option in the AHL.

Thanks for the report. Not happy to hear this about Neighbours and Ellis. With the caveat that that It's 1 exhibition game and shouldn't read oto much into it (and I can't spell), some quick hits on game today:
I thought Laferrier and McGing looked good. McGing I thought showed something last season, but I had nearly written Laf off but he was noticeable. Cranley looked good. Tucker I thought was pretty solid. Washkurak flashed a bit.
Kessel was quite noticeable but more bad than good. Luce and Lyle looked like AHLers. Galloway should be glad he still has junior eligibility. Ellis was bad. Not that any goals were specifically cringeworthy, but he looked small and slow to react. Defenselively we struggled, but he didn't give himself best chance too often.
As to our top prospects, I know Bolduc was on the ice for several against, but he just oozes skill out there. As I said in another post, I figure they have him playing center more as a development tool than thinking he is actual center bc he looks to me like he could be a 1st line winger in time.
Neighbours, on the other hand, I don't know. His physical presence was noticeable but I would like to see more offensive instincts and puck skill out of him. I expect he will be NHLer, but how good? I'm getting Dallas Drake vibes.
I have some hopes for this guy to develop into a decent NHL player. Let's hope he continues on a nice upward trajectory. He seems to have some good basic skills and instincts. The link doesn't seem to work - what did it say about Barkanov?
Very excited about this kid - great work by the scouting department - could be a real find.
Another invite - Andrei Bakanov - LW - 6'2" 213 20 years old Sochi KHL
Kid has bounced back and forth between Russia and North America. One year in USHL, one year in OHL, back to Russia last two years. Committed to Michigan, didn't go.

Bakanov, a six-foot-two, 192-pound forward, spent the 2017-18 season with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies, totaling an impressive 112 points (57G, 55A) in 77 total games between the program's HPHL schedule and U16 AAA schedule.
... his best trait, a deadly accurate, hard shot. His goal scoring capabilities, his patience with the puck, and his NHL sized frame will be highly coveted.”
The Blues seem to be better prepared for this game after more time playing together, and another practice. Let's hope they hold on and win this, and play well in Game 3, too.Neighbours with a good deflection on the PP to make it 2-0.
4 penalties for the Blues in the 1st but they killed them all off and even had the better opportunities while being shorthanded.
The game ended about 14 hours ago, Robb. But yes, they were able to hold on and won 8-3. Sorry about the link not working. It was from Facebook. However, it said almost exactly what you said in your post, except for that part in red.The link doesn't seem to work - what did it say about Barkanov?

Glad they were able to hang on, and win by such a big margin. I guess they just hadn't played enough with each other to be ready for Game 1.The game ended about 14 hours ago, Robb. But yes, they were able to hold on and won 8-3. Bakanov with the hat trick and Sim with 2 goals, 2 assists.

Thanks for the report. As usual, not a lot can be deduced from these games, as the players are all new to each other, and haven't played enough together to mesh at all. But, it would have been nice to watch the games, anyway. I hope I can squeeze in the time to watch them in delayed form.Tuning in for the first time this year and pleasantly surprised at the quality of the stream and announcers. Not so much the Blues' play...
EDIT: Good movement on the PP. Bolduc with what looked like a pass back door to Neighbours found it's way into the net without ever touching Jake's stick, so Zach gets credit for it.
Neighbours with a bull in a china shop type shift creates a couple of good scoring chances for his linemates, but they don't score.
Kessel certainly skates like an NHL Dman. Doesn't do much else like one though.
Kyrou scores...4-1 Stars.
Just noticed this from a TC recap from the Blues themselves - Bakanov is signed to an AHL deal.Blues sign Russian forward to a professional tryout contract | Markerzone.com

Not sure why he wouldn’t have been skating much lately. Busy trying to get his visa? Hiding out to make sure he wasn’t abducted by Putin’s thugs and forced into Russian military service?“I don’t know the whole story of it, but I don’t think he’s skated a lot in the last little while here,” said Blues’ prospects coach Drew Bannister. “So I think we’ll kind of take it day to day with him. And try and get him on the ice as much as we can and get him as comfortable as we can with the guys around here and our training staff. Just let him see a few more pucks here before any decisions are made with him if he’s going to play or not (in Traverse City).”
