I think of this when I hear Son Volt. Good band.

Been listening to a lot of Gillian Welch lately. Love her.

Wow, haven't heard that name in while. Hopefully I don't start thinking about him(especially with the short shorts) when I hear Son Volt.

Do you have a favorite album from Welch? I always see Revival and/or Time(The Revelator) on best alt/country lists but haven't given her a listen except for the Dave Rawlings Machine album "Nashville Obsolete."

speaking of best alt/country albums, Paste recently made a pretty decent list:

This guy on rate your music has my favorite list I've seen. A great description of 100 albums:

Oh man that's a hell of a long list! I'm gonna get to it all eventually.

Time (The Revelator) is my favorite, followed by Hell Among The Yearlings. I bet you would like her.

Just listened to Time (The Revelator) this morning and you were right. After one listen my favorites so far are Revelator, My First Lover, Red Clay Halo, Everything is Free and especially the 14 minute closer I Dream a Highway. I'm a sucker for a good longer slow burner.

Red Clay Halo stuck out for me also. And the closer? Hell yeah!

Levon Helm's last album had a track "When I Go Away" and he passed shorty thereafter. Hopefully this track isn't an omen for Bobby.

Edit: if you haven't listened to Levons last 2 albums, do yourself a favor. Dirt Farmer, and Electric Dirt

I have Dirt Farmer, actually posted a song on page 10. I'll have to check out Electric Dirt. Love THE BAND, especially Danko and Helm, well pretty much everyone except for Robertson.

Richmond Fontaine played their final show last Saturday after producing some of the best alt/country music ever recorded. I love the guy who flew all the way from the Netherlands to see the last show and then jumps on the stage to express his feelings for the band and their music.

Haven't looked at the rest of the thread but here's one of my favorite bands:

The Devil Makes Three.

Very cool old-timey sound. They sing about the devil. The call their music genre "Black Grass".

I've come across some of their stuff on Spotify, and I really dig it.

Has anyone seen Railroad Earth live? They're playing at Union Station in Philly next Friday, and tickets are pretty cheap. wondering if its worth it.
