The Wings could easily run 2 dman out there on the PP if they wanted. Smith and Kronner are much better as rovers than as pure pointmen. Kindl and Green would be our real pointmen.
The problem with our PP wasn't that we had two point men, it was that Babs insisted on keep the puck to the outside. We never tried anything cross ice down low. When Scotty ran the Wings they still had the two dman up top, but there was as much play down low as there was up top. You had plays behind the net and off the short side post. Babs system took our forwards completely out of it from a creativity standpoint. You can't run a PP with no movement and only point shots. 2-2-1 can work if it moves constantly. I'm pro keeping the 1-3-1 but if that doesn't move it'll end up being problematic as well.
