Why help Tampa? Don't we want them to fail?

Edit: okay, so apparently he's becoming a free agent in a few days and we're just trying to negotiate with him early, and not helping Tampa any.

That's fine then.

He’s a pending UFA, so we traded a 7th for a couple extra days to negotiate with him?
Indeed.

I'm sure he will be signed and over paid like Foligno.

1 year 2 mil or something like that.

Flipped at the deadline for a 5th.

why would Perry sign in Chicago?

I suppose they'll offer him more money than contenders who are up against the cap, and then trade him to a contender at the TDL. But I would think Perry would rather just start the year with a contender, like Toronto.

Corey Perry's agency is Newport ... the same as Josh Bailey who will be bought out.

There's always an inside story to every transaction. Agents and teams working together.

* Hawks recievd 2nd round pick for taking Josh Bailey contract.
* As a favor to Josh Bailey's agent, they buy him out.
* The Hawks trade for Corey Perry's rights for a 7th.
* The agent allows Perry to extend with the Hawks.
* The Hawks retain and trade Perry to a contender which should fetch a decent return?

That would be weaponizing our cap space while helping an agency with a very very strong client list with the future in mind.

Just a thought.
