Bettman says plan is to have more strict interpretation on slashing next year. #NHL is concerned about injuries. More discussion this summer.

See? All it takes is a viral video to get the NHL to enforce its rules

I'll believe it when I see it. Not like they give a **** about this in the PO's anyways where it's worse.

They'll just start butt-ending one another with their sticks or performing the 'ol Crosby sack tap.

Probably true.

The NHL seriously needs a no-nonsense approach to stickwork in general. There's just no excuse for the shenanigans that go on with players all but impaling each other.

If this is the start of an actual change, then great. But given the way past "crackdowns" have gone, I'll believe it when I see it lasting more than one season.

About time.

Sticks being used as weapons is becoming entirely too common. I'm all for a gritty game, but you can be physical without cheap shots.

It's ridiculous the way players are allowed to just whack on the gloves/arms freely

Can't wait for ticky-tack slashing to be called in the first 10 games of the season, and then for the inevitable revert back to the norm.

Good. Enforce it on zone entries. Enforce it after the play. Enforce it on faceoffs. Slashing doesn't really add anything to the game.

I don't want the game less physical though, and I'd like to see open-ice hits makes a comeback. Would like to see more series like Nashville/Anaheim in the hitting category. I feel this is more defensive-system related than officiating related, but the head contact rules have certainly had an impact.

it'll be called early in the season and not only forgotten by the playoffs, but encouraged!

If you feel a tap, drop your stick.

I mean, on the one hand, refs will resent that and it won't end well for anyone involved.

But on the other hand, why did you feel a tap in the first place? There's no reason for the stick to be on the hands unless the puck is there.

Cool, so penalties are gonna be called for two weeks, then people (including owners) will start complaining about how the penalties are disrupting the game, and we'll be back to square one.

How about focusing on holding and interference? Or here is a novel idea, how about calling the rules that are in place and not arbitrarily put away your whistles.
