No players who played majority of their career or had their careers before 1967 (no Joe Malone etc.), no active players in NHL (no Iginla, Hossa or even better Ovečkin and Crosby) and no players outside NHL system (no Kharlamov or Makarov).

And we are talking about forwards (so no Orr or Hasek). :)

I think:

1. Bobby Clarke
2. Peter Stastny
3./4. Lindros, Bure
5. Cam Neely

HM: Sergej Fedorov, Pat LaFontaine, Doug Gilmour, Adam Oates.

Discuss. Thanx.

Players who deserve to be mentioned, but haven't yet... Darryl Sittler, Rick Martin, Clark Gillies, Bob Gainey, Theo Fleury, and Paul Kariya.

Switch Forsberg and Stastny and possibly Oates and Lindros, otherwise that's how I see it.

Glenn Anderson needs to be mentioned ahead of many who were already mentioned. He's close though at 498 goals.

That's true Glenn Anderson should be mentioned in this thread, very deserving. That said I would still take pretty much every player mentioned in this thread so far ahead of Anderson.

Good list, he barely qualifies, but I think Dave Keon should be included. I'd say around 5th.

Also, Bob Gainey and Theo Fleury probably fit into the HM's category

I was thinking Keon as well, but nearly half of his NHL career falls before expansion, including his Conn Smythe. Same reason we can't nominate Ullman. At least if we're going by the strict words of the OP.

Names like Keon and especially Morenz open the flood gate of names like Malone, Conacher, Rocket Richard and that is not point I am interesting in it. This topic is about "modern" players.

How can you have Neely 5th and Lindros not even on the list? Their short careers are very similar and Lindros easily has the better peak. I would think that would at least get him on there somewhere.

I also cannot see any reason for Pat Lafontaine over Denis Savard

Both Maruk and Nicholls were not bad players, basically PPG guys with one fluke season, but do you really see them in HM category with guys like Neely, LaFontaine or even LeClaire or Kariya???
