I checked the rankings and right now it looks like there will be a 5 star Tough Guy d-man.

Tristan Tarnasky 5 Yellow. 6-6 253. 81 overall. 2017 draft.

Wow, thats really 5 star player wasted if he is tough guy. Did you drafted him or did you let him walk away?

Sometimes it's hilarious (and awesome) how those types turn out. In one of my GMs, Washington drafted a 4.5G enforcer (RW, I think) 1st overall. Followed his progression for a few years, ended up 87 overall with 4.5-5 stars in every category except senses and skating, and he put up decent point totals too.

Number 7 overall in the 2017 draft - Charles Jessiman. Traded up to get a top 10 pick and get this guy. Started at a 73 and by preseason he jumped to a 75. I'm going to let him tear it up in AHL on my first line with my two other top prospects until I call him up next year.

He's actually good offensively in his 3rd season. 36 points. 3 in 5 in the playoffs.85 passing and 83 Off Awareness. I wouldn't have mind drafting him. Has 99's in Physical.
I drafted #2 4.5 yellow star sniper.

I wish the computer controlled gms drafted for the teams need instead of BPA. So many times around 2020 lundqvist retires, the kings have a high pick and a 4.5-5 star goalie gets drafted after their pick.

Edit: and then they sign a backup goalie to fill their starting role, while they have no prospects.

Likewise, boston has rask and subban and always drafts five star goalies if they're available, just to put them on the trade block

Matthieu Grande-Pierre, 1st overall 2017, is a 92 overall at 24 and the captain of my team. He's an offensive defensemen who has had three 60 point seasons. Best dman in the league

Edit: he's 4 1/2 green stars and came out of the draft at 81 overall

I drafted Sam Bennett with the last pick in the first round, 4 yellow stars and 71 overall. I also drafted Nickolay Goldobin with the 60th pick in the draft, I'm pretty sure he is at around a 70 overall with 3.5-4 yellow stars.

2022 draft. 1st overall. Serge Aulin RH TWD 6'5 211. 80 overall 4.5 green. My dream to draft a RH dman top five. Even better he is a green star.
2nd overall. 5 yellow star goalie Aaron McCormick.
Sick draft. A 4 green star and 3.5 green star with 3 more 4.5 yellow star players.

2020 draft, I traded up to get first overall. I drafted Mike McBain, 4.5 gold star RW sniper. He was drafted at 82 but when the season started he jumped to 84. Almost put up 30 goals in his first season.

I've played a lot of these and one that always comes to mind, I think the name was Ola Danielsson, 4.5* Sniper, 1st overall, didnt develop into an NHL player until he was 25 but I'm not exaggerating when I say he had a 50 goal season every year except once or twice.

Do you play a lot of games? I like to sim and manage the teams but I can never get an offensive defenseman over 50 points. Ever. Really ticks me off when they get up into 90 overalls and still can't produce.

I usually play the first game and last game of a season. He's the only offensive defensemen I've ever had get a lot of points. He has 5 star in every offensive category, 3 in physical and 4 and a half in defense. He's the best defensemen I've ever drafted in 15+ gm modes and the only one to get that much points, I think I just got lucky.

2030 Draft - My scouting found a goalie in the Swedish league, Kristoffersson was his last name. I traded up and took him first overall. 6'6, 205 lbs 5 star green potential at 19 years old. He started out a 75 OVR and I played him starter in minors. By the time we reached September of the next season he had jumped all the way to a 91 OVR. Never seen a guy jump that quick before. He went to a 95 OVR the next season. Shame I got him so late into my career, he was a beast one of the best performing goalies I ever had.

You know what's hilarious about this? I just made some moves in 2035 and I've got one defenseman with 38 points in 45 games (89 overall) and another with 52 in 61 games (83 with all 99 offensive stats essentially) only have about 15 games, they were both injured a lot unfortunately.

I drafted a 5 green star goalie with the first overall pick in the 2014 draft, his name was Wes Mahalak, 58 overall, after 2 years he was 94 overall.

I didn't draft this guy but...

Tiny Callahan, 2017-1st Overall, 4.5 TWF. He started out at 79 overall. Fast-forward 3 seasons later and this guy is 89 Overall at 22 years old.

Not NHL 14 or a good player by any means but in NHL 12 I drafted a guy in the 4th round who's name was Jesus Christiansen

The best draft I came across was in 2019, when

1st overall: 5 green star center (playmaker), 75overall, was up to 92 within 3 seasons
2nd overall: 4.5 green star RD (two-way), 67overall, but he also quickly progressed
3rd overall: 5 yellow star goalie, I forget what his stuff was.
4th overall: 5 yellow star goalie, I forget what his stuff was, except he was humongous. He was 6'7''.

After that there wasn't much, but unfortunately I didn't draft a single one of those guys. Because I just won a cup, with a good group of players and didn't want to trade anyone to acquire them.

Probably Mike Kunzle in the first seasons draft overall 68 and 3.5 gold stars. He was 6 '5 and 205lb and was a PWF by the end of the first season he was already a 83 overall and won rookie of the year in the AHL for the Heat the next season after that he was already 3.5 green stars and was 88 overall when he played for the flames the next season. I drafted him 1st round 6th I think. I haven't played more than two seasons though still I tear up the league winning two calders and stanley cups in the two seasons (he won 1 each). First year I think he scored 27 goals had 17 assists and 105 hits. Next season he had 35 goals 28 assists and 120 hits.

I remember in the older EA Sports NHL games with gm mode (I think NHL09 and NHL10) sometimes the first overall pick would have a Franchise tag instead of Top-5 when you went to scout or draft them. Has anyone ever seen that in the latest game?

I drafted a couple of those and most actually sucked (so frustrating) but one was just unreal. I can't remember his exact name but he was a Russian with an extremely Russian name but the game announcers would always call him Pushor instead  He was drafted with a 93 overall rating and C's for potential. He was the most dominant player I have ever simmed in any of the GM modes ever. I remember he put up 170 points one year when my next highest scorer was only 110. He was a Dangler player type back when they still had that and had 99 in most areas. God I miss the older potential system :(
