Who is the best player or goalie you've drafted so far? Include where you picked him, his potential, overall on draft day and overall now. For me it's Aaron Ekblad. 2nd Overall, 4 1/2 gold stars, 74 and 87.

I didnt draft any of them but i had a season where everyone in the top 10 was atleast 4.5 gold star. The first overall pick in that year was a 76 overall, 5 gold star goalie who jumped up to 88 in a year. Second overall was an 88 overall center with 4.5 gold star potential

Isn't it actually yellow, not gold? Also, green is higher than yellow, correct?

What season are you in?

Year 2 (2015). I'm actually getting ready for the 2015 draft but I don't plan on drafting McDavid since I already have Giroux who I traded for. I'm using Ottawa btw.

That's really good! What year are you in?

Yep green is higher than yellow. Red is the worst though, if one of your players has one bad year then most likely they'll drop to red stars. Does anyone know how to get them back up to gold or green is this happens?

Best I've drafted was an 86 overall TWF 4.5 yellow stars. Led the league in assists in his rookie year and now he's a 88 overall with 5 star defense, shot, skating, and sense. Puck skills, and physical are 4.5 stars. I believe the year was 2019 when I drafted him. H. Doughty. Don't remember his first name.

Adam Erne becomes decent. Not sure on the exact details but he gets to 85+ overall. Darnell Nurse is a good pick too.

be sure to draft players based on the attributes too. Theres one guy I picked that has a 4.5 rating for shooting, despite only like 3 stars and a 67 overall. He scored 29 goals on the 2nd line for my team. Granted, he was playing with a good center, but players can score regardless of rating.

I have two 88's with 4.5 star potential. One was 2nd overall and another was like 14th. Last name was Reitz on one of them. I also drafted Connor McDavid but had to trade him.

Then Aaron Ekblad who is currently a 87 OV with 4.5 green stars.

Have you guys drafted any good players in the 3rd round or later? 3 1/2 stars or higher? I drafted Riley Brace in the 5th round in 2014. I believe he is 2 1/2 yellow stars and 72 overall now. Not the best but I expect him to play on my fourth line next year. (2018-2019)

How can you guys draft Erne and Rychel if they've already been drafted in real life?

im guessing they started their mode at the draft

anyway, as for NHL14 I found a guy in the prospect game who was 82 Overall so I took him with the 6th pick. turns out hes 4 Green stars. niiice

I wish more players in the draft were closer to NHL ready. I rarely get top 5 draft picks but after the 3rd year the people do get draft arent nhl ready until they are 25-27. Its crazy.

I also noticed it is less trade vaule to let a team draft your player then instantly trade for him. Two real examples of this working out.

I was trying to do a GM with the Rangers. 4 Years in needed someone to replace hank when he retired. That year a russan goal tender was predicted to go top 5 with 4.5 green stars. I spent the entire year scouting him. Couldnt afford to trade for a top 5 pick. Some other team picks him and i check him out when Free Agency started. His trade value was half of what the top 5 pick would have been and he was actually only 4 yellow stars with a 55 over all. Would have been a huge waste and saved me a ton of time.

Doing another GM Mode with the Coyatees. Doing a rebuild. I waited till Free Agency and Trade for Sam Reinhert (sp) center play maker and Adam Earnie (sp) OFD player for what it would have cost me to get a first pick. So i got the number 1 over all and the number 3 over all for what it would have been just to get one on draft day.

Best guy I've drafted? I think his name is Ben Duffy, 3.0* yellow, at 63 OVR, now he's 67 OVR after one season.

In the 2014 draft, there were two goalies from Finland, both with 5 (!) star yellow potential, drafted by the Islanders and Canadiens.
By the start of my third season, one is 89 OVR, the other 86 (and still 5 star yellow potential).

Connor McDavid. 5 star yellow. 70 overall at the draft, 78 by the trade deadline, and 84 by the start of the following season. Led my team in goals that year and was over a PPG (82 in 79). Was up to 91 the season after that.

I've also got a game generated 4.5 star grinder who's developing really well. 1 year post-draft and he's up to 84 and has 8 points in his first 12 games.
