Well playing longer with better ppg and much less support is definitely an argument in my book.
Sundin is actually a carrier point per game player witch Dats isn't. During that period you mentioned Dats had 1,1 ppg well thats .... not mind-blowing ... Also best ppg on the red wings during the period was zetterberg with 1.23

Sundin has a slightly better point per game. He stepped into the league as an NHL ready, first overall pick in the highest scoring era of hockey. Datsyuk was a late pick that debuted in a much harder scoring era, on a team that was significantly harder to get icetime on and it took him a couple years to get going. If you want to argue Sundin is better because he was more NHL ready playing in a higher scoring era go for it, but after about 3 years into their careers Datsyuk took over and was a noticeably better player. And in those first 3 years for Datsyuk it was much harder to score and he was on some of the best teams ever so he wasnt getting the ice time Sundin was.
Once all things became equal, Datsyuk was better. Plain and simple. If you adjust for era, Datsyuk has the two highest scoring seasons between the two of them while also being the best defensive player in the league
