Best GM move to "trade up" on Draft day?

Rangers trade 11th overall pick, Marc Savard to Calgary for 9th pick, Jan Hlavac and a 3rd rounder (later traded)

Rangers took Lundmark, Calgary took Saprykin.

Maybe not the best deal, but a cool one nonetheless. Saprykin has since been moved, and Lundmark is still a work in progress. Hlavac had 2 good years for the Rangers until moved.

How about a decent move down scenario??

In 1990, the Jets moved disgruntled center Dale Hawerchuk & a downgraded first round pick to buffalo for Phil Housley and a couple of extras. Buffalo agreed to the deal because the guy they wanted was still available when the Jets were to choose. The Jets didn't care 'cuz the guy Mike Smith wanted wasn't even supposed to go in the first couple of rounds his draft year.....

Buffalo chose Brad May ... the Jets settled for Keith Tkachuk a few picks later.......

When Sam Pollack swapped Montreals's 1970 1st round pick for Oakland's 1971 1st round pick which ended up being 1st overall. Montreal chose Guy Lafleur with that pick. A player went each way as well I believe.

Not a classical trade up in that they swapped picks in different years, but still applicable.

Small thing, but the actual deal was Hicke and the Hab's 1970 first rounder to the Seals for D Francois Lacombe and the Seals' 1971 first round pick.

I've also read that there was cash involved from the Seals to Montreal. That Sam Pollock. :lol
