I second those, pure gems. I'd had:

La jetée (Marker, 1962)
Melancholia (Von Trier, 2011)
Dawn of the Dead (Romero, 1978)
Delicatessen (Caro & Jeunet, 1991)
Stalker (Tarkovsky, 1979)

You prefer the remakes to the originals?
Rarely but in the case of Dawn of the Dead I do. I like Romero but I didn't think Dawn of the Dead was anything special for him. I LOVE the remake, I thought it balanced comedy, horror and action so well, while still having legitimate heart.

I haven't seen the short that Gilliam's version was based on.

I like the remake a lot, I think that it's second tier as a horror remake (not as good as The Fly or The Thing), but still very good. Still, the original is to me one of the best horror films ever - and certainly Romero's best film - so I don't think it's really close.

La jetée is amazing. Chris Marker is a genius. Sans Soleil is top-10 in my favorite films, and probably top-3 in the most important films ever made.

I loved the Dawn of the Dead remake too brother. Good pick. One of my favorite movies that I've seen in theaters.

Almost nothing happens in the movie, and yet, it is one of the scariest Apocalyptic movies I have ever watched. A beautiful, haunting experience.

I love post-apocalyptic movies, funny thing is though there are barely any I would recognize as 'brilliant' or even 'really, really good' but I just love watching dystopian stuff.
They're usually also pretty easy to watch, I'm thinking of The Book of Eli; Z for Zachariah; Snowpiercer, Escape from New York.. etc you get the picture

I'm going to go a bit of a different direction and say I enjoyed the Maze Runner trilogy.

No, I'm not a teenage boy anymore and haven't been for a while. But I found the right frame of mind before watching the first one and it carried me through the rest. The end of the the trilogy, after all of the main characters have met their respective fates, earns the emotional weight it deserves. I was a bit sad that I'll never go on another whacky adventure with this cast of characters.

The first one is the best. I genuinely had no idea where it going, and if a movie is watchable that's a great quality to have.

The second opens up the world and turns into a typical "quest/journey through a dangerous landscape" flick. While weaker than the original its still decent enough to watch. It overuses certain tension building devices but pays off at the end.

The finale is a more of a straight up "impenetrable fortress" action movie.

As I said - I'm not a teenage boy anymore. But shades of that kid still exists somewhere deep down inside, and it can be fun to connect with him again occasionally. If you can still reach that kid you might enjoy watching these movies as well.
