Don't we quite often see coaches come on the field when a guy looks to be hurt? I don't think I've ever seen a flag for it.

Yes, but they don't run into a group of opposition players and start jawing though, and they also generally haven't been penalized for interfering with a player already.

I just feel bad for Marvin Lewis. Good coach, just seems like they've got a curse hanging over them.

Well the ref slid in front of Jones while he was moving toward Porter. Its not like Jones jumped on the ref.

I think you're missing one of the refs in the frame.
So referee #131 walks into Jones in attempt to get him away from Steelers guys, no penalty there
#132 is turning around towards Jones and he get's a bit of a hockey style facewash. That's a borderline penalty, I can give him the benefit of the doubt

However it's ref #82 who has his back completely turned that receives the brunt of Jones shove. He has no idea who hit him and instantly throws a flag, as he should.
Jones has to see him there, his emotions get the best of him, and as a result probably distract the refs from the fact the Steelers are in violation of on field conduct.

Edit-just for easier reference, one more time

If you take a look you see that ref #82 comes in at the same time as Jones. To say that Jones contacted him is disingenuous since the ref was purposely trying to position himself between Jones and Porter and got contacted as such. Its not like he's in position and Jones jumps over top of him. The situation never would have happened had the refs done their job and told Porter to get off the field and flagged him anyways.

I can agree with you there. He was purposefully trying to be in between them. So Jones should easily be aware of that.
Because we see Jones and #82 enter the frame at the same time, it's pretty clear to me at least that it was a 'gtfo of my way' shove because he was not letting him get to Porter.

As already stated, if you're one of the so called leaders of the defense, be aware of the rules, talk to the refs calmly and they will hear you out and probably throw the flag.
It happens all the time, he took that power away by his own actions.

When you're chirping at the refs and other team all night, they're just not going to give you a benefit of the doubt.
Burfict & Jones were clearly just being brats, allll night.

The situation never would have happened if Jones didn't try to go through 3 refs to get at an opposing coach, during the delay caused by Burfict trying to decapitate a vulnerable receiver for absolutely no reason.

I've seen teams screw themselves over, but never quite like that. You had two guys on the field who were more interested in starting a fight than winning the game.

Agreed.

Talk about a lack of situational awareness.

The refs established early and often that extra shots would not be tolerated. They probably also issued continuous warnings to players as well. You gotta know that the refs are going to have a trigger finger. And they may or may not call off setting penalties.

Especially that late in the game with your team leading, there is no reason to test the refs patience.

Fair enough, however Porter never should have been there in the first place. had the refs done their job and booted him off the field none of that happens.

Burfict was, at least, a second round draft pick. But when undrafted due to red flags.

The talent is there and I don't think he is a complete headcase....but geez, it's impossible to defend him after that.

He was projected as a 1st rounder going into his final college season, which was one to forget with a lot of dumb plays that hurt his draft stock. But what really cemented him into going undrafted was an abysmal 40 time at the combine. He runs that okay and probably ends up somewhere in the 2nd to 4th round.

Looking it up, he ran a 5.09, slowest of all the LB's at the combine. Last in broad jump, second to last in vertical jump. Just a brutal combine.

I honestly can't get over this game. It was a meltdown for the ages and all of it coming in what, a two minute span? Wow.

You never touch the ref. Never. I don't care what the other guy says. By trying to go through the ref to get at the Pittsburgh player, he helped implode his team's chances of winning when he should have just walked away.

I remember when an LA King shoved the ref earlier this season and wasn't penalized

Shazier had 13 tackles, 9 solo, 2 TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 2 passes defended and 1 fumble recovery.

....good day at the office.

The second flag definitely should have been thrown. Don't touch the damn ref.

People want to blame officiating but I don't see it. Don't fumble the ball. Don't hit with your head. Don't touch the ref. Easily avoidable penalties and mistakes.

The Bengals had that game WON. They blew it. And it wasn't the ref's fault.

Lewis I'll STILL give a pass but again Burfict and Jones were being idiots yet it's always "Referees in it for the Steelers". No, you just committed stupid penalties and ****ing GAVE THEM THE GAME. YOU HAD THAT GAME WON.

Woah, I agree with all this. What has this place come to.

I still don't like the inconsistency, though. That should have been a penalty on Shazier for hitting Gio if it was one on whoever hit Wheaton. I can understand that frustration. But good coaches don't let their players dwell on it. That's where Marvin Lewis continually fails.
