It's wild to me that the same situations occur over and over and yet people never really do learn. How many times now have we had a Nick Paul in our organization that fans felt they knew better than the organization about?

Nick Paul will play in the NHL, on another team. But he won't play 1000 games, like the vast majority of NHL players because there's always someone younger, cheaper, healthier, faster, better, whatever ready to take your job. That's the story for marginal NHL players like Chiasson, Paul, Pyatt, Wiercioch, Greening... all have been decent at one point but with a limited shelf life. Health plays a major role there (ex : Cowen)

Secondly, very hard to evaluate D-men and defensive forwards under Boucher, because his teams are terrible defensively and are a puck possession nightmare. Interesting when they activate offensively but otherwise, very complicated for nothing.

The only thing the team seems to be doing right is get high danger chances and score goals. But they find way to lose because they can't keep the other team from scoring. When your shutdown forward is Pyatt (not NHL material anymore) and Ceci is your shutdown D-man (was never supposed to be shutdown), of course things will go wrong.

Yes the Nick Paul’s, Shane Prince’s and Matt Puempel’s of the world are why we are here.
Well you have to actually give them a chance to prove they don't belong. 8:28 of ice time and no consistent line mates while constantly playing 11-7 isn't the greatest way to see what a guy can bring. We're in a rebuild, there's no downside in playing him or guys like him. We're not competing for anything, this is supposed to be a development year. It sucks to see corpses like Pyatt, Smith, and Boedker paraded out there nightly when another guy is looking better.

You bring up those guys but we also have our Hoffmans, Dzingels, Pageaus and now Wolanin and Paul. Not so long ago Pageau got sent down when he deserved his spot in place of the likes of Lazar and Greening.

This is a legitimate grievance for Sens fans. We're being given lip service about building for the future but that is not always reflected on the ice. Even a guy like White still gets benched in the 3rd.

I understand the complaining of most of our recent organizational decisions. The waiving of Nick Paul isn't a real concern though. Not one of the other 30 teams thought he was worth a look for their big club. Kid has to work on stuff in the minors to be more effective and then take his next chance when he gets called up.
That's fair, its a small thing in grand scope of this train wreck but still frustrating. The team has made far far worse decisions all year, which makes the whole notion that "the org knows best" really really hard to take from some people.

Disagree. He was consistently better than Smith. Smith brings nothing outside of PK. If there is any year for Paul to play consistently with the big club it's this year. Isn't there a mantra to play the young guys this year?

Listen I think Smith is a waste of cap space as much as the next guy. But this is just plain wrong.

Smith has 21pts/50gp and +3. This is a pace of about 35pts. This came almost entirely playing in the bottom 6 and the PK, and its in addition to a whole pile of hits, some agitation of the other team, and the occasional fight. Whatever way you slice it, this in fact something.

Paul on the other hand literally brings nothing at all to the table aside from his Curtis Lazar type production, a workman like attitude, and the occasional glimpse of a player who's bigger/stronger/faster than most other players.

At some point it comes time to shit or get off the pot for players like Lazar and Paul. Your junior accolades can only get you so many chances before teams give up. Sometimes they figure out just before the hour glass runs out on their careers (see Chaisson), and some times they fade away for good. Paul has to figure it out in a hurry which one he wants to be.

He hasn't shown anything in the time he has spent in the NHL he has been given a lot more chances than most players. He literally shows minimal potential when he is up here.

He needs to figure out his role with the big club and work towards that,.

I disagree with everything you said. Show me someone who's gotten less opportunity than Paul.

Really don't know much about Abramov but I got Gallagher vibes from the little I've seen.
