SO, he was traded due to Landeskog?

That's speculation on Friedman's part it seems. It's possible the altercation with Landeskog in camp could have been one of the factors though.

I don't think that it played nearly as big of a part as Friedman is claiming that it did. I choose to believe that either the Avs decided that he wasn't part of the team's plans going forward, or Downie indicated that would test UFA, or even both, and therefore the Avs decided to get some value rather than lose him for nothing.

"What the hell?"

That should sum up most of the first 1000 posts on this from the last thread.

Downie seem to be ok and will be back soon, but his eye got a bit messed up.

I think the worst part of Downie leaving, was that all of us Avs fans were giving the kid so much praise, and then they ship him out. I was talking to my buddy the day before how pissed I would be if he left. And the next day he's gone. What a team guy tho, takes a beating like that his first game. That's why I kinda don't believe the Landy thing.

That's gotta be speculation, they are adults and I highly doubt the would let something as minor as that affect their careers!

Talbot has been solid but I'd still prefer Downie at this stage.

At this point, I think they got rid of Downie because he was taking at least one dumb penalty per game. He's got more penalties than games played this season, and even with missing several games now with the injury, he's still #3 in penalty minutes.

Roy wanted to strengthen the penalty killing, and in one move he brought in a PK specialist, and got rid of our top source of minor penalties.

I like Downie and all, but I was never sold on him being a key to our offense. I never really saw him as more than a 3rd line energy guy that had above average scoring talent.

I think Mitchell has been better, at least last night he was. Cycling the puck, moving it to the point, getting in to open areas. He wasn't going Bobby Orr as usual.
