It's no coincidence that the Avs' D became the league's fancy stat golden child after he was acquired. He's a #1D and the most intelligent player on the team. It's such a shame that he'll never win a Norris

Incredible trade and contract. They could have signed a longer contract making it even more of a steal but nobody seriously thought Toews would play like an All Star Dman.

I think 4 years was probably the max Joe could get at a price like that. He'll be a UFA at 30 now where he can still sign a big money deal for 5-6 years or so.

If he was signed for this cheap to a 6 or 7 year deal, he'd be a UFA at 32 or 33, and made much less money in the long run.

4 years was fair for both parties. I only wish they both agreed to 6 yrs. I was a huge fan of Toews on the island. Was so hyped when we got him.
