I think the goal was to trade Ghost and Gus be the 5/6 pp specialist. No market for Ghost and Flyers kept.

If I go with what you are saying (and it makes a lot of sense) why did fans see Braun can't replace Nisky but Fletch/AV think he could.
Fletch even came out and said that he was not going to sign Braun but when Nisky retired, he signed him.

I think that he was thinking "he might not be as good, but can still be a defensive Dman that we need". And then no other options came available to "really" replace Nisky....so he went with Gus. Maybe his thinking was "Braun replaces the defense, Gus the offense/PP".

Who really knows.

He’s an idiot and its been in spite of him, but he’s right.

It’s the goaltending that’s sinking them right now. The skaters are actually doing better than they were at the start of the season.

I elaborated here:
2020/21 Roster Thread VII: AV Confirmation Bias Edition

They have been better but they still scatter a handful of mind boggling bad defensive plays into every period. There was one sequence in the last WSH game where twice a WSH player got the puck directly in front of the goalie with no one around with time to deke or shoot. This was all within a matter of a 30 seconds.

Yeah the goalies haven't been stellar and there have been weak goals. But honest to go I don't know if I would call them net negatives on the team this year simply because the opportunities given up have been beyond bad. Like we need a category beyond high danger for a lot of the opportunities the Flyers are giving up on a routine basis.

Until they figure out how to stem the tide of A+++ chances they give up every game the goalies will be putting up terrible numbers.

Him and the people below him, their systems are not working. The PP is lacking, the PK is listless and the perimeter play bullshit in the offense zone needs to end. Get to high danger areas or get the f*** out.

I'm still up in the air a bit. I like some of what he does, hate some of what he does, and am ambivalent to the rest. I think when they're playing the game well and everyone's on top of their shit, you can see the structure he brings and understand why his teams win a billion regular season games. But historically his teams have just fallen apart at certain times, and he seems to not really know how to get them on track always, and ends up making decisions that are counterintuitive to getting back on track...they just sort of stumble until they find it again. Unfortunately we've gotten to see that happen to one of his teams in a Cup Final, and it wasn't pretty.

I think the team needs the sort of structure and scheming he can bring to the table, but they also need a fiercer personality back there--a motivator, an advocate. I'd be OK with some of the lineup f***ery if they brought their shit to work every night, but he doesn't seem capable of getting them to do that--the last three guys haven't, really. It seems like an unmotivated bunch still, and Vigneault's system is very...relaxed, I guess. It just isn't the best combo.

So, he's a good coach in a certain context, but I'm not sure he's the coach this roster needs. If the team was going for a retread I honestly wish they had just brought Laviolette back when they had a chance, especially after watching him go full caveman in his defense of Wilson and then seeing his team just drag the Flyers for a week. For all the flaws there, Laviolette teams skate their asses off and play an extremely aggravating game. That's the hockey I wanna see, and the kick I think this bunch needs.

At very least they should get different assistants this off-season. They aren't firing AV yet but they need to change something after underperforming and having a structureless mess out there, not to mention horrific special teams. It's unacceptable and this is a business. AV doesn't have to like it. He's next if it doesn't work and things don't improve.

It's not like he didn't try. He just wasn't going to sacrifice the future on a one year fix (i.e. give Brodie his NMC and lose Patrick/Linblom or Sanheim/Myers).

And Braun has played as well as say Schultz, paired with Sanheim he's been just fine, just don't pair him with Hagg.

No, Scott has it.
And soon as the team turns it around, the naysayers will fade back into the woodwork.

Just win baby.

I'm ok with keeping Yeo around for now. He really improved our PK and defense a lot last season. This year they're struggling, but part of that is because the goalies and defensemen are struggling.

They don't have to keep Therrien though.

I'd probably keep Yeo too TBH. He has a reputation as a good assistant but the other two do not, aren't, and should go.

Goalie coach not sure on. If CH likes him I guess he can stay another year. Assuming the goalies actually improve this season. Last game was somewhat encouraging so we'll see.

Decided to go check what the Rangers board had to say about the 0-9 loss and this was on the first two pages of search results.

Thought this might be helpful for the people pretending the system isn't the issue. From the mouths of people who don't give a shit about our team or players and have no reason to defend the "favorites".

It only took 9-0 shutout for some Flyers fans to realize “hmm maybe AV really is a dunce”
Quinn sucks, but he does not make me miss AV, thats for sure.
In typical AV fashion, Flyers defense was atrocious and their goalies couldn't come up with big saves.
That's the Flyers 9th game in a row giving up 3+ goals. Finally, the league gets to see what AV hockey looks like without a HOF goalie behind it.
That was an epic AV-coached implosion by the Flyers, it may be even worse than our infamous loss against the Sharks in 2013 when Hertl scored 4 goals. It feels good to be on the winning side of an AV blowout for once.
What I did see was that piss poor AV man on man system that got worked by some of our more talented players. That will be very hard to do against a more layered zone coverage system

My Flyers fan friend just asked me why AV isn’t making any adjustments to stop the breakaways.
He is going to be waiting a while.
AV really wore out his welcome quick of there, dear god. Flyers board all over him, rightfully so
They have plenty of star power and a ton of depth.

They're just coached by AV.
This is what AV’s system looks like when the goaltending isn’t elite.
They've ben consistently awful this season.

They had the typical unsustainable AV start and have crashed hard. This is what AV hockey looks like with out elite goaltending.

Really did unfold precisely as they predicted.

I was told by my friend that our one shot at a Cup was probably in year 1 or 2, and then after that it's nothing but pain featuring everything we are currently watching.

I wouldn’t be against it but I still Gallant is a tad overrated here. The Knights haven’t missed a beat since The coaching change.Sure he has a couple nice seasons in Fl but lots of coaches overachieve a few times in their career
