I take Tavares but it’s close. I think Tavares has better vision, hands and offensive instincts. Matthews definitely has the potential to be better as soon as next season. He’s eventually going to surpass him it’s just a question of when, it may take over 5 years.

Kessel did play with Sid. He played like 30 game with him when he first came to Pittsburgh and they did not click. That's how the conclusion that kessel and Crosby do not work together came to be.

Actually, that's not accurate. They played about 7 or 8 games at the start of the season together, Sid got off to the worst start of his career under coach Johnston, the two got split up and have rarely played together since.

The lack of sample size is why I'm *not* convinced they wouldn't click. Sid usually takes a bit of time to click with his linemates; rarely does it happen within 5 or 6 games. So them trying Sid with Kessel for about 8 games isn't enough time for me to write it off.

How is playing several games injured or coming back from injury meant to improve your rate statistics?

Less games and total ice time == higher rate stats. Not rocket science.

It's like PPG and paces being higher over fewer games compared to full seasons or larger sample sizes.

Kadri is a borderline #1center himself. I don't know how that is an insult.
Thats a pretty big insult if you're paying the second highest contract in the league for a guy who's worse than a guy who isn't even a top 20 centre.

Of course that isn't the case, and P/60 numbers are stupid without comparative usage.

It won't take over 5 years, they are maybe equal right now with possibly a slight edge to Matthews. One things for sure Matthews is the better 5 vs 5 player.

He played 62 games, not 22. Plus he was playing far from 100% for over half those games.

Tavares will be our second line center. JT has averaged approximately 80 points since the lockout; Matthews was 1 point over point per game last season as a 20 year old. I would bank on a small improvement from Matthews and Tavares is basically a known 80 point player. I think they are close; but Matthews is slightly better.

Don't really know what the point of this post was unless you genuinely think that Kadri is comparable to Tavares. If so god help you.

your arguments are always so convincing.
Oh yes the same poster who tried to extrapolate Matthews' P/60 over the same ice time as McDavid to make him look better not taking into account diminishing returns with increased ice time. Kadri=Tavares is quite the laugh though I really enjoyed that. He must be pissed off knowing he could have got 11M on the open market.

and here I thought you'd have learned from this past season's epic wrongness.

Go on...

Or did you want to talk about the time you claimed Matthews numbers might be sustainable 10 games into the season despite completely unsustainable OISH% and ISH%. If I recall correctly you claimed "we don't know it's a hot streak" and continued to cite the xGF stat which also tailed off for him. If you want to rehash that discussion we can and we can talk about how lucky Matthews was last season being on the ice for 17 goals for above his expected numbers at even strength. Or have we moved on to a different stat that better fits your argument?
