Ultimate Hockey said:
An offensive genius, he was a clean and gentlemanly player and a fine defensive forward who was often asked to play rover so he could poke-check opposing rushers to frustration.
Ultimate Hockey said:
Some say he was the single biggest hockey influence on the great Frank Nighbor. He was also a very effective poke-checker
Lester Patrick in 1915 said:
Barely 19 years of age, he is a star of stars... He has speed, is a grand stick handler, a great back checker and scorer, and he's got brains, something that average hockey player does not acquire for years after being in the game.
Lester Patrick said:
He was perhaps the greatest centre we ever had on the coast. MacKay was a great crowd pleaser. He was clean, splendidly courageous, a happy player with a stylish way of going. He was sensational in making quick breakaways. He was a sure shot alone with the goalie. He could handle his stick and was almost as good a hook-check as Frank Nighbor. He was one of those who helped make pro hockey a great game. He was outstanding in every way
(undrafted coach) will admit, if you press him, that he never saw greater players than Cyclone Taylor and Mickey MacKay.

When I was talking about adding position eligibility I was talking about Mackay

In East rules cup games Mackay more often than not lined up at RW for Vancouver

When the PCHA dropped the rover for 23-24 forward and they had Frank Boucher Mackay seemed to line up fairly often as a "forward" in the starting lineups with Boucher at center

Excellent pick.If I wanted his skillset I would've taken him instead of Fredrickson, but I wanted more size and speed.

He fits in nicely in your lineup

When I first started playing ATD, MacKay was listed as C/RW. But we've dropped the /RW over the last few drafts.

Are you saying we were right back then all along?

Let's add more defensive acumen to the F group. Like that he can play across the F line.

Do we know how much RW he played? I was looking at Walker when I took Provost but wasn’t sure.

Less the other 2 as far as I know. But I'm going to try and dig up what I can in the next few weeks. But Provost is a good pre consolidation comparison. There is a guy post expansion yet to be drafted I sort of put into that category, although a touch behind the 2 above.

I’m sitting here deciding between a lot of forwards. I’ll decide to find a goalie to bail out Jagr and Esposito.

Excellent 2-way player. I considered him when I took Kopitar.

ugh... torn between three players here. hopefully one of them remains until my next pick.

Kenora selects:

JACQUES LEMAIRE (C)

Of all the guys I considered when I took Kopitar, this guy was probably the toughest to pass on. I know he gets knocked for being a beneficiary of Guy Lafleur, but I don't think they even played together until the they were put together midway through the 1977 season.

I think Lemaire has gotten underrated. He was better defensively than given credit for, and his contribution to Lafleur's career are underappreciated. He was also part of the Cournoyer generation who peaked in the Orr years.
