McLeod, Gauthier (another Fischer?), and Jones are in mix as well. Plus BCJHL D. For all the flack about McAvoy being in a teams top 3 D he was at 14 on McKenzies list. Bean is another Keith Yandle.
I'm a lot lower on Bean and McLeod. I wouldn't touch McLeod until at least the Rangers' pick, and probably not then, either. Just not seeing the upside. I don't think Bean will touch Yandle's level of play, either. Hockey sense will hold him back. I see Michael Del Zotto as a more realistic upside.
Gauthier's goal-scoring ability projects higher than Fischer's. Whereas Fischer probably tops out as a middle six tweener who can pot some big goals, Gauthier has true top line upside as a finisher. I have Jones 8th right now, but I suspect he's lower than that on most teams' lists. I'd be thrilled with either, though, and I tend to be more bearish on power forward prospects than most (in the last few drafts, I had Crouse, Virtanen, Wilson and Biggs much lower than where they were projected or ended up being taken).
Fabbro looks to be slipping a little, but I see him as a mid-first guy, and I'd guess Cholowski sneaks into the first round, too. Neither should be a consideration with the Coyotes first pick, though. I like the NCAA route for defensemen, though, and I'd be happy to spend the second first rounder on either of them.
I've been high on McAvoy for a while. He's 14th on my list, too. Chychrun and Sergachev are both clearly ahead of him in my view, but I'd say he's on par with Juolevi.
It's a crowded field this year. I'm not sure yet whether that speaks to depth or shallowness, or maybe just a lot of uncertainty. On balance, I'm not seeing as much first round talent as I saw in 2015, at the top, middle or bottom of the round, but there are a lot of players I like. With three picks in the top 40, the Coyotes have a great opportunity to buttress their impressive prospect depth, but if the past few years are any precedent, at least one of those picks will be a little off the board. Dvorak and Fischer look to have been inspired picks so far, though, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes down.
