Speculation: Assuming we don't get Matthews, who would you want to draft most in 2016?

What would it be apart from an opinion? You can infer things from context, and when a person is talking about the career of a prospect it being their opinion is one of those things.

And Nolan Patrick is going to be better than McDavid. He is going to challenge TGO single point season. He will be a top 5 producer in the NHL for 15 yrs. He is closer to TGO than he is McDavid. But wait...I haven't seen this kid play, only what I have read. Like Kihekah said, ''it's just all to funny''.

It is all too funny, but I doubt we're talking about the same thing.

Well it looks like as long as we dont drop below the number 7 pick we will get a good player. I hope we go best player, not greatest need. We can always trade later.

There's not much daylight between my 6th ranked player and my 12th. There will definitely be some excellent players available whenever the Coyotes end up picking. My worry, as it always is, is whether they decide to take someone else entirely. McLeod, Brown and Bean all make me a little nervous.

McLeod, Gauthier (another Fischer?), and Jones are in mix as well. Plus BCJHL D. For all the flack about McAvoy being in a teams top 3 D he was at 14 on McKenzies list. Bean is another Keith Yandle.

I'm a lot lower on Bean and McLeod. I wouldn't touch McLeod until at least the Rangers' pick, and probably not then, either. Just not seeing the upside. I don't think Bean will touch Yandle's level of play, either. Hockey sense will hold him back. I see Michael Del Zotto as a more realistic upside.

Gauthier's goal-scoring ability projects higher than Fischer's. Whereas Fischer probably tops out as a middle six tweener who can pot some big goals, Gauthier has true top line upside as a finisher. I have Jones 8th right now, but I suspect he's lower than that on most teams' lists. I'd be thrilled with either, though, and I tend to be more bearish on power forward prospects than most (in the last few drafts, I had Crouse, Virtanen, Wilson and Biggs much lower than where they were projected or ended up being taken).

Fabbro looks to be slipping a little, but I see him as a mid-first guy, and I'd guess Cholowski sneaks into the first round, too. Neither should be a consideration with the Coyotes first pick, though. I like the NCAA route for defensemen, though, and I'd be happy to spend the second first rounder on either of them.

I've been high on McAvoy for a while. He's 14th on my list, too. Chychrun and Sergachev are both clearly ahead of him in my view, but I'd say he's on par with Juolevi.

It's a crowded field this year. I'm not sure yet whether that speaks to depth or shallowness, or maybe just a lot of uncertainty. On balance, I'm not seeing as much first round talent as I saw in 2015, at the top, middle or bottom of the round, but there are a lot of players I like. With three picks in the top 40, the Coyotes have a great opportunity to buttress their impressive prospect depth, but if the past few years are any precedent, at least one of those picks will be a little off the board. Dvorak and Fischer look to have been inspired picks so far, though, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes down.

Dvorak was a reach. Fischer went a lot earlier than expected. A lot of eyes were rolled on the main boards when MacInnis was taken, too. I agree that our scouts have earned our trust in recent drafts.

I didn't phrase that well. I didn't mean I didn't think we'd make any off the board picks, just that if we do make one I won't worry about it because of their recent track record.

I didn't phrase mine well. I was just agreeing and expanding. It was a "Yes, and..." statement rather than a "No, but..." statement. My bad. :)

Double fail ha.

The macinnis pick still blows me away, he looked like crap the first few times I saw him then all the sudden this year he's hit his stride. Scouts being able to see that hidden upside is amazing to me.

That's why the scouts make the big bucks.:)

MacInnis had a very good camp last year and basically came out of nowhere, for us novice hockey evaluators anyway. Although I'm sure some will say it was expected.

So Bob McKenzie polls actual NHL scouts and GMs to come up with his list. He gets their rankings and compiles them.

Here's his list from Feb8th:
1.Matthews
2.Laine
3.Pujujarvi
4.Tkachuk
5.Chychrun
6.Nylander
7.Juolevi
8.Dubois
9.McLeod
10.Gauthier
11.Bean
12.Sergachev
13.Jost
14.McAvoy
15.Keller
16.Jones
17.Fabbro
18.Bellows
19.Kunin
20.Brown
21.Tufte
22.Stanley
23.Rubstov
24.Dube
25.Asplund
26.Laberge
27.Hajek
28.Thompson
29.Bastian
30.DeBrincat

mynhldraft.com is also a compilation of sources. They add up McKeen's, ISS, Hockey Prospect, DraftBuzz, Draft Analyst, Damien Cox, Future Considerations, TSN, Pronman, Central Scouting, THN, and Button.

This is their list from March4th:
1.Matthews
2.Laine
3.Puljujarvi
4.Tkachuk
5.Dubios
6.Nylander
7.Juolevi
8.Chychrun
9.McLeod
10.Keller
11.Jost
12.Sergachev
13.Gauthier
14.Bellows
15.Rubtsov
16.Bean
17.McAvoy

23.Stanley
24.Thompson
25.Asplund
26.Hajek
27.Bastian
28.Laberge
29.Benson
30.Grundstrom

Me? I put more stock in McKenzie's list. Which is a part of the MNHLD list. But I'd personally give it a higher weight. Something like:

TSN Poll+MNHLD Compiliation =
1.Matthews (1+1=2)
2.Laine (2+2=4)
3.Pujujarvi (3+3+6)
4.Tkachuk (4+4=8)
5.Chychrun (5+8=13)
6.Nylander (6+6=12)
7.Juolevi (7+7=14)
8.Dubois (8+5=13)
9.McLeod (9+9=18)
10.Gauthier (10+13=23)
11.Bean (11+16=27)
12.Sergachev (12+12=24)
13.Jost (13+11=24)
14.McAvoy (14+17=31)
15.Keller (15+10=25)
16.Jones (16+20=36)
17.Fabbro (17+18=35)
18.Bellows (18+14=32)
19.Kunin (19+21=40)
20.Brown (20+22=42)
21.Tufte (21+19=40)
22.Stanley (22+23=45)
23.Rubstov (15+23=38)
24.Dube (24+100=124)
25.Asplund (25+25=50)
26.Laberge (26+28=54)
27.Hajek (27+26=53)
28.Thompson (28+24=52)
29.Bastian (29+100=129)
30.DeBrincat (30+100=130)

^defaulting only to the BMac list for names, and adding 100pts to those not on the MNHLD list. And tie goes to the BMac player.

So...Re-Ranked:

1. Matthews
2. Laine
3. Pujujarvi
4. Tkachuk
5. Nylander
6. Chychrun
7. Dubois
8. Juolevi
9. McLeod
10.Gauthier
11.Sergachev
12.Jost
13.Keller
14.Bean
15.McAvoy
16.Bellows
17.Fabbro
18.Jones
19.Rubtsov
20.Kunin
21.Tufte
22.Brown
23.Stanley
24.Asplund
25.Thompson
26.Hajek
27.Laberg
28.Dube
29.Bastian
30.DeBrincat

I'm going to use that same BMac+MNHLD formula once Bob's final list comes out before the draft. I'm willing to bet money that it mirrors the actual top 30 closer than anything out there. Again, that bet is based on gut feeling nonsense and zero facts. :)

I guess I forgot to do this. I'll do it for the 17 draft instead. Whoops!
