Nylander probably wants 8 to 9 mills... Leafs want to give him 6 to 7 mills... so they should settle around 7.5 mills.

It all depends on the length of the term, I think.

His camp probably wants Draisaitl money but TML camp wants to give him Gaudreau money.

I highly doubt he will sign a long time deal under 8. In the next two years you will see Mathews in the 11-12M range, Marner in the 9-11 range. It would be leaving tons of the money on the table to sign long term under 8M. I think we will see a 1 year deal or bridge deal at 7ish before we see anything long term.

Can you list a single comparable contract that would justify Nylander getting 8+ and in particular Marner in a 9-11 range? I am genuinely curious.

IMO a very good question now would be the following: if you cannot fit both, would you rather have Tavares at 7X11 mils or Nylander at 8x7 or 8x7.5?

Around 7 million. If you take the Larkin deal at 5 years 6.1 million and add years 6 and 7 at 9 million, you get 6.93 AAV for 7 years.

Marner is the one I’d look to deal.

He’s going to give you the best chance at getting a RD that can play.

If he signs a 7 year deal, I can't imagine he'll sign for less than 8.

If he does, he needs to fire his agent.

Over the last 5 years, the only players who've scored more points in their first 2 full seasons are Panarin, McDavid, Laine, Matthews, and Marner.

LOL...I bet as a division rival you hope we deal Marner.
Not really. I’d rather Toronto’s defence to be steamy dog poop forever. Sign guys that can’t skate backwards over and over for all I care.

Looking at it from the outside, Nylander doesn’t get you an impact dman. You won’t move Mathews, Tavares or most likely Kadri (who may ask to be moved someday if he’s not keen on his new role).

So who is left? A young winger that payroll wise is going to ask for something he probably doesn’t deserve yet but will feel entitled to because of the other deals being tossed around now for guys off the elc’s.

Find a team that needs scoring but has a plethora of defenceman under contract. Carolina is one. Anaheim maybe another.

Leaf fans might not like losing the shiny toy. But the dull one that works will help them win more games

Tavares @ 11m all day long.

The funny part is that in trade proposals like Marner for Subban many TML fans explain to us that Marner is better because he is younger and you get more years out of him..

And something tells me that before July 1st mant TML fans would have answered Nylander, but now they would answer Tavares... But I could be wrong.
