Ruslan Fedotenko finally retired at age 37. After his KHL team's home rink at Donezk was destroyed he hung around Minnesota's farm team as a bit player the past two seasons. Retiring with 2 Cups rings and almost 1,000 total games to live with wife and kids in Florida instead of riding buses out of Iowa... why the hell not?

He had a solid NHL career and was a fairly important part of 2 Cup winning teams. Good for him and happy retirement.

Well, here's the fantasy roster I ended up with:

John Tavares, NYI*F
Johnny Gaudreau, Cgy*F
Jonathan Toews, Chi*F
Dylan Larkin, Det*F
James van Riemsdyk, Tor*F
Matt Duchene, Col*F
Nikolaj Ehlers, Wpg*F
Sam Reinhart, Buf*F
John Klingberg, Dal*D
Shayne Gostisbehere, Phi*D
Victor Hedman, TB*D
Justin Faulk, Car*D
Gabriel Landeskog, Col*F
Kyle Okposo, Buf*F
Jacob Trouba, Wpg*D
Corey Crawford, Chi*G
John Gibson, Ana*G
Ryan Miller, Van*G

Crawford ended up being my keeper. And then I drafted 5 Johns in a row.

Since our league basically fell apart, we did a soft reboot. That meant a bunch of new people and limiting our keepers. Previously, I had Tarasenko, Tavares, Stamkos, Subban, Hedman, and MacKinnon as my keepers. That's what good drafting does. And now it's all for nothing haha.

That's an impressive group of wingers. Even Okposo could put up decent numbers.

Thanks, I got lucky that people in my league were overvaluing hits and where taking some really questionable players early in hopes of having a 200+ hitter and everyone wanted a big name defender early. There's a team with a blueline of Letang, Orpik, Gudas, Polok (also rostered Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck, and Tom Wilson).

I got Voracek in the 7th :amazed:

Some around the league notes:

-Price has the flu and stayed home/didn't travel with team. MTL is in BUF to start the season.
-Eichel just went down in practice. Had to be helped off.
-Bergeron didn't travel with the B's who open up on the road. Listed day-to-day.
-Kevin Klein(NYR) hasn't been practicing(back spasms).
-B's Kevan Miller out 6 weeks with broken hand. McQuaid also out, day-to-day.
ETA. -Okposo will also miss the Sabres opener(knee).

Ovechkin
Johansen
Eberle
Galchenyuk
Drouin
Hornqvist
Zuccarello
Draisaitl
Palat

Letang
Subban
Klingberg
Parayko
Markov

Luongo
Varlamov

I got 1st overall in my draft. Went Ovy. Shots, PP goals and hits count in my league. And then I had my next two picks consecutively so I just went troll mode and picked up both Subban and Letang.

Really cool for Matthews.

Blues shed some weight this year and they look a lot quicker in the first 5 minutes. Last year I said they looked like the worst team because they were slow. This year, They are a team to watch out for if they can figure out how to play fast and big. Watch that team.

I know it sounds really stupid, but I've been more impressed by Matthews in the last 22 minutes than I have been by McDavid all last season. Kid is so composed and plays so smart. Really happy for the future of American hockey with him.

He probably isn't tough enough for Burke and Tortorella though.

Good thing they'll be gone. Too bad we won't even see the NHL in the Olympics next time. Eichel, Saad, Matthews, Gaudreau is the first time I feel like we could compare with Canada.

Torts will probably be gone. Somehow Burke always seems to bully his way into making decisions for USA hockey. I'm less confident about him not being around.
