I really need to go to sleep.

I have the Sharks broadcast on and I could have sworn they said "and now it's time for the cheap shot of the game."

It was the Jeep Shot of the Game.

:help:

Insomnia is a wonderful thing....

At least they are beating Tampa but that probably won't last long since Tampa is going on the power play right now...

Jack Todd: Can we end the Subban-Weber debate and admit both teams won?

When you look at the career stats, there’s not much to choose from between Weber and Subban. Subban has 92 goals and 300 assists and he’s a plus-52 in 606 career games; Weber has 195 goals and 318 assists and is a plus-68 in 885 career games.

Weber has a harder shot, hits much harder and is better in his own zone, although Subban has improved that aspect of his play. The difference comes down to style: as someone said last year, Subban will give you three jukes and a spinarama to get the puck into the offensive zone and Weber will accomplish the same thing with one efficient pass — but the puck ends up in the same place either way.

The bottom line is that both teams got a stud defenceman capable of logging huge minutes and putting up significant points. With Subban about to turn 30 and Weber still clearly capable of playing terrific hockey and helping his young teammates mature, the age difference doesn’t seem as significant as it once did: As events this season have shown, injuries aren’t always a product of age.

Right now, it looks like the trade was good for both teams. It does happen, you know.

Agree. Good trade for both teams as you’d expect. Two elite defenseman, so not much of a surprise there.

That cap hit for the Habs though!!! Of course if he retires, Preds have a significant fee coming their way. In terms of play on the ice it’s probably time to assess as a win win.

In terms of who gets hammered money wise the jury is still way out. Someone is going to pay a price for the length and value of that Weber contract. Guess we’ll see if it’s Habs, Preds, or if Weber plays long enough before retiring for them to share the pain.

Sounds funny. That video of him mispronouncing names is hilarious. I laughed out loud when he called him Balstad, and Rattle Off was a great pickup by Bergeron. I can’t believe Ron kept a straight face through a lot of that.

I argued quite a few times that weber has 1 hell of a good cap hit. For the next few years... getting a top 10 dman for under 8 mill is robbery.

And then his real dollars shrink to the point he will prob retire

But holy nucleur hell nashville if he retires !!!!!!

So i think montreal can go to nasville and say sorry we need to demote him to ahl unless you give us 2 first round picks

What will nashville do? Leave weber out to rot and let him retire? Or golden parachute him to club med?

I was begging that boston try to trade for weber... on my keeper sim team hes the 1 big name i paid a fortune to get. I think hes going to age like chara and be damn good for pretty much his entire contract

I think your suggestion/question is key. If Habs go to Preds and say “Shea and we are convinced he is done. We could put him on LTIR and deal with the salary and cap implications. Of course if he retires in 2025 (!!!!) you guys eat something like $24M in recapture fees. On a COMPLETELY unrelated question what say we trade you our #7 D man in ECHL for two first round picks while we think this Weber issue over a bit more?”

What will NHL do???

I don’t think Weber has another 6 years in him. If he does, he’ll be an almost $8M yoke around their Cap neck each year. I know Cap goes up but that’s real money.

When i look at weber i see his age 33... then i see 5 more years being paid.

I look at a guy like burns or karlsson or doughty and i wonder how excited am i giving these guys 8 year deals.

But thats because i think weber making 1 mill at 39 is an easy trade to make. Imagine if chara is only making 1 mill the last 3 seasons? Soooo many non cap teams would have been lined up at our door step

So far no guy with a front loaded deal has hung around and honored it. We see guys like hossa develop magical skin rashes

If montreal hates the weber caphit they can buy him out. The cap recapture penalty isnt theirs to suffer

So either he stays productive and everyone is happy... or nashville bends over. But in neither case will montreal be hurt

The contract is pretty nice for them

I agree the risk is largely with Preds. However, even if his salary is $1M, any team that trades for him will still eat just under $8 Cap Hit so that will thin the suitors lining up for a year or two of that. His serious knee issues of late don’t help matters. Appears he is healthy now but who knows how he holds up. We’ll see.

Nothing against Weber but I hope his play drops like a rock and puts everyone in a bind!

The NHL will let them off. They will get a penalty, but not the 25 million. Even the NHLPA will want them to get off.
