Caught part of the Flyers - Caps game , Martin Jones will be evicerated in Philly this year. Some real stinkers let in.

Edit: watching those two teams beat the crap out of eachother in a preseason game just shows how soft our team was after the game against the Ducks. Every cheap shot, slash, crosscheck elicited a response by both teams. Our team sorely lacks this.

Jones was a terrible choice, there were better options that signed for under 2M. Fletcher thought because Dillabaugh is on their staff and had him like 10 years ago, some miracle would happen.

It won't, he's awful. Going from 60 games to 30 or so as a backup might help a little. But in AV's run and gun system, which leads to too many odd man rushes and pressure on a goalie (who is playing behind 3 new defense pairings ) it doesn't bode well.

Hard to believe 2 tests can be inconclusive. He said it was for 'health' reasons.

So making yourself, as possibly the teams number one goalie, ineligible to play in Canada for 7-9 games a year isn't putting them in a position to lose? Interesting. Guess his impact on the team isn't that strong. Just call it what it is, you don't want to be vaxxed for your own reasons. That's fine. You're entitled to that thought if you want but don't make it like you're making some holier than thou stance for others stake.

I agree. I find it funny they go from Brian Elliott to Jones when Elliott signs for half the price. Maybe Elliott just wants a ring and doesn't care about playing much, but he was in Philly for a few years and he'd get more playing time there for sure so the switch to Jones makes no sense.

and he had a nasty bout of COVID last year, missed a lot of time. Him not vaccinated, and those games he'll miss, might be the reason they got Bernier. Devils should be solid on defense, have a good group of rightie defensemen, with Hamilton, Jaros, Subban and Severson.
Forward core is a bit young, but if the goaltending holds up, Devils could surprise.

THN had a good article about Bernier and what the pressure of Toronto did to him and how it helped him in the long-run. Sounds like NJ was a really good fit for him and them, I think he'll do well there.

Agree. He was good on a Leafs team with bad defensive structure (not to mention playing in that fishbowl)
Better team, coach and defense. I think he'll have a good year

Been saying this for a few years now and it's just frustrating as hell. Not sure how to solve the issue with this roster. They don't grow tough on trees like they use to.

He already had it? Then what's the problem? He's immune.

Getting toughness, hard-nose and dirty guys isn't that difficult, I would expect that to be addressed down the road. Greene, Stoll, Richards, Fraser, Regher, etc. Clifford and Nolan were really the two nasty guys that the Kings brought through their system. These type of guys who are capable do cost decent assets, but they certainly are more available than higher skill guys.

Vaccinated people can carry it as well. It's a nothingburger.

Not relevant to the thread.

NHL has made their policy and folks have to abide by it.

Disagree if you wish, but do so in the Covid thread, the philosophizing about 'should' vs. 'should not' is OT here. Let's get back on topic starting here.

Per Le Brun, if Ekholm isn't signed by the start of the season, talks will shut down until after.

Insider Trading: Buffalo Sabres willing to make part of Jack Eichel trade conditional - TSN.ca

Ekholm was not signed past this season. They have talked all off-season long about an extension and have not been able to get one done yet but here is the wrinkle: I’m told that agent Kurt Overhardt and Ekholm have told general manager David Poile and the Predators that if he is not signed by the start of the season we want to shelve talks. We don’t want to negotiate during the year.

He'll likely be available at or before the deadline then. Even if Nashville is in a playoff spot, they are ripe for a mini-teardown and rebuild. Johansen and Duchene are anchors around their necks.
