Bonino was acquired at age 26. He was dealt at 27 when he had 2 years left at $1.9 mill aav. His subsequent contract with Nash in 2017 was for $4.1 mill AAV. At 29, figure Bonino would have gone for the highest bidder, but whether he would have been worth the same while playing those 2 years in Van, who knows.

Again, he's not a young 2C. And really the whole "cheap" contract doesn't have as much value on a team that wasn't contending for the Cup (other than trade value). If Bonino was indeed a good 2C he would be paid more than $1.9M AAV when his contract is up. He ended up being paid as a premier 3C.
