Old thread -> Non-Minnesota NHL News XV

This Auston Matthews kid is pretty good...

Also, Leafs trade for a goalie after Andersen's neck injury...

Campbell, Clifford traded to Maple Leafs by Kings

Jack Campbell and Kyle Clifford were traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday for Trevor Moore, a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Campbell, a 28-year-old goalie, is 8-10-2 with a 2.85 goals-against average and .900 save percentage for Los Angeles this season as the backup to Jonathan Quick. Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen has a neck injury, and backup Michael Hutchinson is 4-9-1 after a 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

Report: John Marino has broken cheekbone, surgery required

John Marino took a puck to the face last night when Steven Stamkos took a shot that was partially deflected by a Penguins player straight into Marino’s face.

It looked scary, but some good news was injected immediately after the game when coach Mike Sullivan offered a fairly hopeful immediate update.

Pittsburgh Penguins✔@penguins

Coach Sullivan on the status of John Marino: “We think he’s going to be okay. He’s being evaluated right now. He got hit in the cheek.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case as further evaluations today have apparently revealed broken bone in Marino’s cheek.

I can confirm that John Marino broke three bones in his cheek and is going to need surgery. Nothing official from the #Pens yet.

While surgery and a broken bone in multiple places is never good news, the location (cheek) might be a slight blessing in disguise for Marino to have avoided a jaw injury.

Jets just scored an empty net goal, lead by 2 over the Hawks with 1 minute to go...

Edit: another... game over.

That's scary. They postponed the game. Apparently he is awake on route to the hospital.

This is awful:

Scary stuff! Great work by the medical staff!

Blues: Bouwmeester alert after cardiac episode
Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was taken to the hospital after a cardiac episode on the bench during Tuesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks and is conscious and alert, the team said in a statement.

"Thankfully, with the quick response of our medical trainers, Anaheim medical trainers and their team physicians, they were able to stabilize Jay," Blues GM Doug Armstrong said in the statement. He added that Bouwmeester was "conscious and alert" as he underwent further testing by Anaheim's physicians on Tuesday night

Lucky this incident wasn't worse... very scary as well... he never returned to the game, but by all accounts, just a severe laceration. Nothing additional.
