new option for refs this upcoming season.

Here's the rule, per Scouting the Refs:

"The Referee shall have the following options after video review of his own call: (i) confirming his original Major Penalty call; (ii) reducing his original Major Penalty call to a lesser penalty; or (iii) rescinding the original Major Penalty altogether."
This major tweak to Rule 20.6 will allow the refs to make the right call on the ice no matter the situation.

Just as long as they don't take 5 minutes to review every major penalty...

It sounds like that's only the rule if the original call was a major though. Do they have the ability to review a minor and upgrade it to a major? I don't recall off the top of my head.

indeed that would get old but hopefully we wouldnt see that many majors anyway.

i didnt see anything about minors being reviewed and upgraded considering that could get out of hand with too much review.
