A decent 3rd line option later in ufa season if Allvin can ship out Myers / Pearson would be Pius Suter also slides Blueger down to the 4th line

Even then, they’d still need to create roster relief for the forwards if they wanted to bring in Comtois.
*tinfoil hat*

It’s going to be a Pesce for Karlsson esque swap, and they flip us Pesce for Myers, a forward like Beauvillier or Boeser retained, picks+

I will keep peddling this pipe dream

In that scenario—I could see the Canucks retaining some of Karlsson’s contract in exchange for SJ taking on Garland’s contract

I was more responding in jest but that’s an interesting idea - if the OEL buyout wasn’t in the books it could’ve been an option.

No information other than what Allvin has told us.

“The indication I got from his agent and from our medical staff is that the hand is healed, and Tanner is working really hard to to be the in his best shape and participate in training camp”

From yesterday.
Then we should see if Lou wants him for the Islanders.

Hughes Pesce
Soucy Hronek
Cole Dumba

Wouldn’t even mind Dumba if he signs for cheap. That’s a playoff style d core. Big and mobile. I’m clinging on to the Pesce pipe dream even if it’s not realistic.
I don't think it's feasible to swing both. Bringing Pesce in you have to be prepared that to retain him past this season it's probably going to take something like 6x6 when he's turning 30. We might be able to get Dumba on a cheaper 1 year deal, but he'd be looking to improve his position for a longer term deal next year. Playing top pair with Hughes would be great for that, 3rd pair with Cole not so much.

Yes probably not re: Dumba, but we're starting to see 1 year deals on the remaining UFA crop as the total available cap amongst teams dwindles down.

I'd be prepared to give Pesce that deal as that will be Hughes' partner for the remainder of his contract and the hope would be that he doesn't drop off super hard in the first half. Hughes can handle playing with Myers/Schenn so I'm not too worried that Pesce will just fall off a cliff and become unplayable. WIllander should slot in soon so he'll have a nice ELC for us to work with too.

I think Beauvillier value is probably similar to Duclair, a Replacement level one way contract and a late round pick.

Jest or not—it’s an interesting exercise. Let’s try this cost on for size:

InOutNet Salary 2023-24
SJ
  • Tyler Myers (1Y x $6.0m)
  • Conor Garland (3y x $4.9m)
  • Jack Rathbone
  • 2024 CAR 1st
  • 2025 VAN 1st
  • 2025 CAR 2nd
  • Erik Karlsson (3.5m / 30% of $11.5m retained)
+$3.0m
CAR
  • Erik Karlsson (4y x $6.0m)
  • Brett Pesce
  • 2024 CAR 1st
  • 2024 CAR 2nd
+$2.0m
VAN
  • Brett Pesce (1Y x $4.0m)
  • Erik Karlsson (2.0m / 25% of $8.0m retained)
  • Tyler Myers
  • Conor Garland

I don't think that Vancouver -6.9 # is correct if we're eating 2 mil of Karlsson

Geez, Toronto is $8M over the cap… never seen a team so in the red. I wonder how they’ll get compliant, looks like a mess.
There's whispers of Nylander moving on (maybe ,maybe not)...I bet Treliving would like to be out from under that Tavares contract.

Looks like he's trending away from light skill players.

I like it - good, well though out proposal. Again think it would be tough for the team to run 6.5 million in dead cap for two years but apart from that…

  • Year 1 (23-24)Great — you save net cap thanks to unloading Myers
  • Year 2 (24-25)Manageable — pay for the $2.0m retention by replacing Garland with a winger who makes $2.95m or less instead
  • Year 3 (25-26)Manageable — same as above
  • Year 4 (26-27)Painful — Yes… this year the pain hits. Better hope you have Willander, Lekkerimaki, and one or two other players on ELCs hitting!!
