Where was our gm on Devon Teows?
he missed out, same way Lou Lam missed out mcdonough in 2018.

good players will be traded, if we are going to talk about every miss, then we will be here forever.

sakic made a good trade same way yzerman made a good trade in 2018.

when every team had their sights on pietrangelo during the 2020 offseason, sakic was one step ahead.

Devon teows is such a great player.

2 seconds for a top paring defencemen. Damn

That and kadri trade were both savvy moves by joe.
The Duchene trade that returned Girard and Byram was too.

Girard’s injury may have been a blessing for the AVs. They‘ve proven they can win without him.
It will be interesting to see what they do with Girard. Burakovsky, Kadri, Kuemper & Nichushkin are all pending free agents and Byram effectively replaces him. They might be best to recoup some assets and reallocate that money towards goaltending and/or forward depth.

Kessel, Bozak and now Kadri has each won a ring after leaving Toronto, I guess these guys weren't the perennial losers they were seen as during the mid 2010s with the Leafs.

*Team Culture

1) Kessel went to the pens. Crosby is always the hardest worker. Team culture was to backcheck and play hard.

2) Bozak: The resurgence "Gloria" that the blues had when they fired Yeo and hired Berube; defense first attitude, block everything and be harder to play against team culture got that team a cup

3) Kadri: Avs would have won the cup couple years ago IMO if they weren't dessimated with injuries playing their fourth string goalie in the playoffs and still pushing the series to Game 7 OT. This season, Kadri just exploded offensively in regular season, Hatty against the blues, then Game 4 OT winner in the SCF. Team culture is to back check and back check and back check. Avs just did not allow tampa easy entries pretty much all game in game 7. They were skating and skating and were on top of tampa all the time. Tampa had all of 2 or 3 shots on goal in the entire third period if am not mistaken with one additional shot on goal at the end. Avs outshot Tampa in the third period. Again Team Culture. Never take foot of the gas, killer instinct.

Leafs' team culture is a shit show IMO. And it starts with the GM

Colorado traded 2 X 2nds for 26 year old Devon Toews and won the Stanley Cup.

Leafs traded 2 X 2nds for 38 year old Mark Giordano and lost in round #1.

That's the problem, most people seem to think he was moved due to the two playoff suspensions, when they were simply the last straws that broke the camel's back.

It's probably the press, or social media he's referring to...

and he's mostly been a playoff liability... that's true.
He's a better playoff performer than everone of the big 4 since joining the Avs

JT especially. Low end 2nd line center production in the playoffs as a leaf

Kadri had no issues since Babs came. He got suspended and moved. .

Managenent made a poor move. Shanahan especially as someone whose integrity, and character was non existent in his playing days should have considered keeping a guy like kadri who loved being a leaf and made only 4.5M.

Shanahan despite being a grade A douche as a player was kept around and won cups

Not thar I have any reason to citize Lou ( not our GM anymore)

But the GM who dealt those 2 2nd was Lou

At the time it was a decent trade but Toews broke out and nows a 1D. So like the Kadri deals critiqued now, so should the Toews deal

Islanders GM put himself in a bad situation and needed cap space to sign Barzal.

You're correct Dubas should have taken advantage.

Sometimes it is about moving the player to a spot it won't come back and haunt you.

Don't you mean the GM who received a second-round pick in the 2021 and 2022 NHL Draft for Devon Toews was Lou?

I thought we were comparing getting Toews to getting Gio?

Toews is obviously much better so it was a great move for Sakic

But Lou on the other end of that deal lost it

For us we got back "top pairing d" for Kadri buy we lost it badly seeing how vrap Barrie was and Kadri was signed long-term for cheap

That’s why vets like spezza Simmonds and gio came and then stayed in Toronto for relative peanuts? Cause the culture is “a shit show”? Jesus Christ this place is a meme sometimes

LOL just seeing this

.... Kadri went through similar issues in Colorado, suspended in the Blues series and the Avalanche were beat.... on the Dallas series before that his coverage scored the game 7 OT goal, believe he caused an earlier goal against. Also.... media was baiting him, at least the ones I watched.... the media leads with "traded by Toronto, suspensions.... Colorado stood by you" sounds like someone begging for a good sound bite to me. Kadri didn't bite on that one.

O dog its not that impressive... anyone could have called that. Media is gonna be all over trying to get Kadri down that path. Also.... O dog you sound like a drunk uncle at a reunion.

I was comparing the cost of 2 X 2nd round picks, where one player is 26 years old Toews and his whole career ahead, and the other 12 years older at age 38 in the twilight of his career in Giordano, I was comparing Leafs GM to Cup winning Joe Sakic in cost of acquisition. :)

How can you lose a deal when one of the draft picks in 2022 hasn't even been made yet? Seems a bit early to call.

Devon Toews ( a 2014 fourth-rounder) 26-year-old defenseman, who was a restricted free agent at the time had filed for salary arbitration on Oct. 10, and scored 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) in 68 games in the previous season. NYI's and Toews couldn't come to terms on a new deal so he was dealt for 2 X second round picks at that time as opposed to NYI accepting a judges ruling, on a likely 1 year deal making him a UFA the following year.

Toews was coming off a 2 year deal for $1.4 mil ($700k AAV) at that time. Sakic signed him Oct 27th to a 4 year deal for $16.4 mil ($4.1 mil AVV) prior the arbitration hearing and ruling.

NYI were tight against the cap and NYI's according to the reports thought 1st round Noah Dobson could replace Toews on the roster for much less. So lots of things involved here, including NYI's potential waking away from a ruling they didn't like.

Calling Tyson Barrie a "dman" is being generous to the position, but much like Toews was looking for a large raise rumoured to be $7-8 mil range, so Sakic dealt him as a pending UFA, with RFA Kerfoot to Toronto for Kadri + Leafs third round pick (#74-Jean-Luc Foudyin 2020 and replaced him with Toews for less than Barrie was making at the time $5.5 mil. The gap between Naz and Kerfoot as players for only $1 mil less cap is quite significant. Leafs couldn't have thought much of Barrie as they let him walk and signed TJ Brodie instead.

This is a disingenuous assertion Mess considering the Barrie and Toews trades were a year apart .. Toews didn't directly replace Barrie since there was a year between the two.

Sakic shrewdly took advtange of a cap-strapped Lou, and Lou opted to keep his veterans over Toews. In doing so, Lou is now searching for a steady top 4 d-man. Dobson is nice but he's a RHD. The reality is Lou sold low on Toews, who was a steady top 4 d-man on the Isles because of the cap mess he created.

Wish the Leafs could have been in on that trade but at the time their left side was Rielly-Muzzin-Dermott-Sandin .. already a growing logjam. Fitting Toews in would have been tough.
