Almost thought it was too asinine to be true...

Lol that’s the real problem that they didn’t take it to heart. I mean if I’m having an 18 year old call me out for lack of effort I’m going to stop and say hmmmm maybe I’m doing something wrong and try to change. This? Just seems like they didn’t even care lol epic

that's not the point though, and you keep treating it as if hockey players are robots. sure, they should self evaluate and it's prob not good to be labeled that, but from an interpersonal standpoint it's horrible

i stand near smelly people all the time at the subway, but you don't see me telling them they smell and should shower for their own good

He does have to want to coach for the team you know

let’s say he wanted to coach for the flames in a couple of days when they have a head coach vacancy. do you honestly think they’d hire him, all things considered? of course not. my point was, unless he does some damage control, he’s going to be out of work for a while.

although i imagine he’s sending peters a giant muffin basket as we speak for taking the news cycle over

if you worked with a smelly person and job performance was effected by it for everyone in the department would you tell him or say nothing and risk people getting fired

he won't get anything bc it's a PR nightmare, and the players who will be coming on the team probably won't want him either. considering all the stories have been corroborated, picking him up is dangerous territory. track record doesn't mean shit if it's horrible for the hockey business. it's like hiring a great coach who's a career .700 who was previously in the KKK

i would have my boss tell his ass he smells. like can you imagine if your boss said:

"hey, doesn't alex smell like shit?"
"yeah... he's kinda smelly"
"HEY ALEX, THIS GUY THINKS YOU SMELL LIKE SHIT"

if this was the offseason I wouldn’t put it past the flames for interviewing him if he was open to it also. Mid season no

holy cow so it’s abusive work place to physco behavior to kkk level lol. I dunno we will see how it plays out but I’m sure there are players that like him. Supposedly I read that JT picked the leafs because he was there and marluaue something similar.

lol you know what i mean regarding KKK man

and for sure there are players that liked him - morgan rielly, kadri, and lidstrom were on record saying that they liked him, with lidstrom saying that he knew how to push the right buttons where you'd say "i'll show you".

but just segregation is no longer considered right (it's not, but at the time people thought it was normal), or just like shots to the head no longer being viewed as a "good hit" (it was okay during stevens' era), being a verbally abusive coach (from a subjective standpoint) is no longer good to be. i'm sure back in the day it was totally normal, but now there's more power to the player from a human standpoint. whether you agree it's good or not to have, you can't have that on your team, as a sports team owner

I do have to say I really respect the way all the parties involved (NHL, Flames, TSN, Blackhawks, etc.) have handled this whole situation.

The allegations don’t look good on Peters so let’s see how the Flames react after they research the allegations, but I feel the PR and attitude toward it all is everything you want to see.

There was a time and place where Bobby Knight was considered a genius and admired. He was trusted with the dream team if I recall. I remember some anecdote where he got on the floor with a magic marker and wrote the date and time that Charles Barkley played defense. Then his antics struck a younger generation as over the top and he lost his luster. I've heard plenty of stories about NFL coaches forcing injured players to play. I'm sure that the Babcocks and Peters of the world saw their older generation of coaches getting away with terrible things because all that mattered was winning and the players were just tools to that end. Humiliation, insults, and abuse were the norm because they saw these behaviors as a way to get the "best" out of a guy night after night who might be tired or sick and really wants to be home rather than playing Tom Wilson on the road on a Tuesday night. I'm skeptical that Babcock really understood what he did from a "normal" person's perspective. Similarly, what Peters did was inexcusable, but I doubt he thought about how what he did or said would look to an outsider. It's a shame and hopefully people can learn to coach without old school neanderthal tactics. We will see.

It is amazing to me that Hynes is possibly going to come through this with a better reputation since I imagine he's not abusive or insulting to the players. He does have daughters at home and some of how he deals with his own children will likely bleed over to how he deals with the players, for better or worse.
