This is essentially the same as over the glass. It's an automatic penalty at anytime in the game

Imagine if they ushered in one OT period of 5 on 5, the next OT 4 on 4 and if there's a 3rd or more OT, 3 on 3, at least with the first round while there's this many teams.

Yeah I thought about that yesterday, it would make sense to me. Not in the Cup finals or potentially the conference finals, but the rounds before that definitely.
