Edmonton's issues seem to have been too many cooks in the kitchen with the 80's Cup Oiler's still hanging around (Lowe, MacT, Gretz). Maybe with Holland, he has enough experience to put people in their place and make moves that someone younger wouldn't have the power to do.

From what I had heard from Toronto sports radio this afternoon, Lowe isn’t on the hockey side of the ops anymore. Apparently he’s more part of the financial/beancounter part of the organization.

MacT was working with Bakersfield this year and by all accounts has done a good job down there.

Interested to see who they go with behind the bench. Another recycled guy or maybe a Jim Montgomery type or a guy like Lane Lambert. Maybe Jay Woodcroft who is the HC for Bakersfield. I’m sure McLellan has interest in his old assistant coach.

I don’t think Hitch is coming back.

Sens COO Ruszkowski resigns from his post suddenly after 1 yr.

  • Ottawa Senators’ COO Nic Ruszkowski is leaving his post after just one year on the job. As The Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch writes, this is yet another shake-up to a front office that is still searching for a President of Hockey Operations, not to mention a head coach. Garrioch reports that Ruszkowski’s departure has spurred the Senators to restructure their administrative structure, with several executives moving into new roles to take on some of Ruszkowski’s duties. While the team claims that this restructuring will “strengthen our club”, Ruszkowski’s unexpected resignation is yet another stain on a difficult season for the Senators and only adds to the mythos of owner Eugene Melnyk being a difficult individual to work for. The team has a lot of work to do this summer on all fronts and hopefully can get their front office sorted out sooner rather than later.

and from that same article , Pouliot will be available

Sportsnet’s Rick Dhaliwal reports that the team has informed defenseman Derrick Pouliot and his representation that they will not qualify him this off-season

why would they not qualify Pouliot? Qualify him but don't sign him if he sign qualifying Vancouver has a cheap asset, if he doesn't then he can sign an offer sheet if one is available and given it owuld likely be a low $$ amount Vancouver would lose him for nothing which is the same as not qualifying. If he does sign they can move to the AHL for injury call up insurance, and if he needs waivers and is claimed than they lose him for nothing which is the same as not qualifying.

I just realized that Vancouver is already at it's maximum 50 contracts, so maybe that is why. Still odd they would not trade his rights for furture considerations at the least.

Finland beats Canada 3-1 , Kakko shines...

Finland vs. Canada results: Score, highlights from Canada's tournament-opening loss

The Canadians didn't know what to expect against Finland on opening day of the 2019 IIHF World Championship, but they were well aware of the promise of 18-year-old Kakko. The teenager showed that potential can be realized early when he scored the first and last goals of Finland's 3-1 victory over Canada on Friday, and Kakko demonstrated throughout that he will be a force to be reckoned with when he enters the NHL later this year.

If I never hear another word about Kakko or Hughes, it'll be too soon.

I hope this draft ends up like 2012. Yakupov, Murray, Galchenyuk, and Reinhart were taken over Morgan Rielly.

Hopefully Byram falls to five and is even better than Rielly.

Someone is going to overpay for him and just hope for the best. His history of injuries is really worrisome.

"but if he's healthy and focused and it's the right phase of the moon and in the central time zone he's the best d-man in hockey history ainec"

at some point you have to accept injuries are part of the player, especially if he keeps trying to Forsberg his way thru them

The only people dumber than some of the GMs when discussing long term contracts for players are the pundits. Any GM who gives Karlsson more than 4 years should be fired immediately. The guy is 29 years old and injury plagued for the last few seasons.

It's kinda disturbing how so many must know it's a bad idea to sign these players to such long contracts with so many red flags yet they still do it.

Really surprised Buffalo or anyone went with Ralph Krueger. He’ll get another shot with a young team with some talent and major holes. I’m expecting them to lose Skinner as a UFA.

honestly Oilers should have kept him. He only got his shot during the lock out shortened season and it was the first season the Oilers looked to be actually turning things around. He got let go and the team plummeted once again.

Slaying MacT is the first dragon. It’ll be much tougher to kill off Keith Gretzky, Kevin Lowe and, hardest of all, TGO.

Kinda stunned that MacT is leaving for the KHL at this point in his life. Someone must have told him he can get drunk and run people over with his car with no jail time over there.

Now if they can manage to get rid of Kevin Lowe, then I believe Ken Holland has full autonomy over all hockey ops. But if he's still around, they're screwed.

Lowe wasn’t part of hockey ops anymore. He was more on the financial side of things according to an interview on Toronto sports radio a few weeks ago. Didn’t have much of a voice, if any this past season.

"In 2014, Krueger shifted from hockey to the world of association football, to become director of English Premier League team Southampton. On 12 March 2014, Krueger was appointed the chairman of Southampton F.C. In April 2019, Krueger left the club to return to hockey full time.

He is also known for his involvement in the World Economic Forum, where since 2011 he has been a Member, Global Agenda Council on New Models of Leadership."
