Nolan Patrick played a hell of a game. Myers looked good too.
I overheard the guy next to me telling his friend that Hart is the next Marty Brodeur. I didn’t say anything until he actually asked me what I thought. Told him he’s out of his mind, and go Devils
As an aside, Tkachuk is going to get his ass kicked one of these days.

The worst one was ''Al Montoya will be better than Mike Richter AND Brodeur''. I still cringe thinking about that one. What a legendary BUST Montoya was. They're lucky Lundqvist came a year later and bailed them out of that stupid Montoya pick at 6th overall and made everyone forget about how epically brutal of a pick it was at 6th overall. Lundqvist is the only reason most people have forgotten about that embarrassing whiff of a pick.

I don’t understand how he went in the 2nd round. He wasn’t even an out of nowhere surprise. A lot of people were talking about him before that draft.

heres the thing though. nothing stopped shero from moving up 3 picks to grab him. but he didn't not saying i'm blaming him but if he was on the devils radar that much then they would've traded up to get him
You need someone willing to move down for that to happen.

Oh good. This shtick again. DeBrincat fell by a lot of teams, some more than once. And you're little "I'm not blaming" him while blaming him is kind of transparent no? I get that you're unhappy, miserable even, with the direction this team is currently on but come on. The league passed on Bratt 5 times before we took him. Should Shero be held accountable for not taking him in any of the previous 5 rounds?
It's tough to know without being privy to those conversations. I remember seeing some behind the scenes footage from the 2008 Draft where Lou was offering picks #52 and #54 to somebody to move up higher in the 2nd round but was rebuffed. That day, Tampa acquired pick #37 but at a cost of a recent former 1st rounder in Anthony DeAngelo.
There's a lot less movement at the NHL Draft compared to say the NFL. It's tough to assume that there was a team looking to move down. I can only imagine in a lot of cases, there's a team sitting in the 30s and there's a few guys they had ranked in the 20s still on their board. Heck, I remember Castron giving a post-draft interview when he mentioned that Bastian was in the top 30 of the Devils draft board.
At the 2015 Draft, we moved down from #36 to #42 for an extra 3rd round pick. But it also cost the Sharks a future 2nd rounder to move up from #39 to #31. The ask to move up might have been more than they were willing to pay given who was still available.

draft picks are such a crapshoot though - you never know who will pan out where. like, who's to say that nolan patrick wouldn't have done even more amazing on our team than he's done on the flyers? players on their own aren't good in a vacuum - systems and the linemates matter too
