Watching the Canes-Habs game because I was bored and TMFVR scored a goal. Pretty sure this means he's better than Johnson who scored zero goals in the last Bolts game.

Matthews broke 70 points last night. 92 point pace (since what if points count more around here). Is this real life?

Tied with Tavares he'll be the highest paid player (actual salary) at $15.9M come next season IIRC. McDavid will earn $14M.
He'll have the 2nd highest cap hit next season at $11.634M behind McDavid's $12.5M.

For reference, here are our top-4 earners next season:
1. Kucherov $12.0M salary ($9.5M cap hit)
2. Stamkos $9.5M salary ($8.5M cap hit)
3. McDonagh $8.4M salary ($6.75M cap hit)
4. Hedman $8.0M salary ($7.875M cap hit)

It's not just our game. How the hell could Winnipeg lose to the Habichockers at home is lost on me. This is shaping up to be a weird last week....

Fans are rightly upset with the collapse of half of the women's pro hockey leagues. Based on the way it goes in men's minor league hockey now, the leagues won't merge. The NWHL may absorb the teams they think would work the best for them, but they won't merge the leagues outright. Why take on their liabilities?

The IHL didn't merge into the AHL, but they took some teams (RIP IHL Solar Bears). The CHL didn't merge into the ECHL, but they took some teams, etc.

A real shame

If it happened multiple times in women's soccer (arguably a much more popular sport), it's not a surprise it happens in hockey. Just gotta keep at it and hopefully it'll take. Women's soccer seems to be in a more stable position finally with the NWSL.

Exactly this. Whenever I watch a stream, people aren't in the seats. It's not starting an NHL in 2019, it's probably starting a pre-NHL league of ~1900 in 2019.
List of pre-NHL seasons - Wikipedia

I don't understand the urgency to overexpand the footprint. The early NHL was in places like Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, eventually into Boston, Pittsburgh (1925), etc. The perhaps equally as viable PCHA was in Vancouver, Victoria, Portland, Seattle, etc. Both grew the game.

The CWHL wanted to have Calgary and however the Chinese team worked. Otherwise, they were looking pretty good. Toronto, Montreal, Boston/Worcester, Markham.

Maybe the NWHL does a western conference that sort of acts like it's own league and no crossover until the championship. The issue is that the cities are a lot further apart out west so Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, etc. are probably out. Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Portland, the old PCHA crew could work. Maybe Abbotsford new in the mix.

edit: well, well, well. I didn't even read this before hand. Pacific Coast Hockey Association - Wikipedia
