Are you playing hockey?

Toronto is under lockdown, and the number of people allowed indoors has been limited for a while.

I missed the opportunity to join a league this summer, but now it’s all closed for sure.

In any case, I don’t want to subject myself to all these protocols, so I’d rather wait at this point.

My league staggered through a season, interrupted by postponed games. Now they're trying to figure out how to do a playoff with only part of the schedule complete.

All in all I have played 2 games since March. I will try and play if my team gets scheduled for a playoff, but I'd really rather not at the moment. It would be a really dumb way to get sick.

League was shut down in the spring, started up again in the summer with a mini-tournament, rolled into the fall then everything got shut down again 2 weeks ago.

If we're lucky maybe in the new year.

In Montreal there's stick and puck opening in a lot of rinks. No games but you can skate around and practice and shoot around with no nets. Individual play only and unless you're with a family member no playing with other humans. But it's fun because with 19 others on the ice you can dangle around them as everyone just uses each other as moving pylons.

Makes sense because if free skates are permitted in the province why not allow that. It's worked amazing well and people get to stay on the ice. It's been 3 weeks I believe it's been open and I can see this staying open for the entire Winter. And since outdoor rinks are also open in Quebec this Winter it bodes well for getting on the ice for ppl in the province. No games, but people just need to stay active.

Anything like that in other parts of Canada?

I'm not, and can't find any ice time anywhere despite there being tons of rinks in my area.

It's killing me. What's everyone else's situation looking like right about now?

Before Rhode Island enacted a two-week 'pause' for the next two weeks, non-competitive Adult League hockey and Stick-and-Puck was still going on. Stuff like High School Hockey, and younger traveling leagues have been cancelled.

My Dek League that plays outdoors finished this past weekend. All signs are pointing to a Spring session soon.

My Roller Hockey League that was back in March has been cancelled. No word on if that is ever starting back up again..

There’s one roller hockey league/rink going and that’s pretty much it. Play on a couple teams there and we play some pickup puck at a couple outdoor roller rinks in my area.

I know the feeling, I’m dying to get back on the ice.

Here in Central Jersey we've been playing since mid June, with organized beer and youth leagues running from mid July until now. This weekend organized hockey is being put on hold for a month as we try and sort out the second wave here. This was just announced today I don't know if this means no hockey at all, as private ice rentals were permitted before we officially started playing again, or if we'll go back to renting a sheet for a handful of people like we did in the early summer.

Our team took the season(s) off. League still going, not as many teams, divisions, nights.

I'd sub for a different team, but I injured my foot a month ago.

My league shut back down. We got one game in. Oh well... COVID numbers were going back up, so I kind of expected it.

I hope the city will do all they can this winter to get the outdoor rinks up and running and well maintained because I won't be skating indoors until this pandemic is well under control.

Haven’t played since the 70’s. Feel for the junior guys who are aging out this year, and missing their last season.

Update: this morning our league announced it is shutting down the season due to the latest announcement of restrictions which include a 10pm curfew.

Just as well, because I've been seeing more and more players reporting COVID infections. At this point I would imagine every game involves guys who are infected and don't realize it.

Chances are that was true well before "At this point ...".

That's true. I've seen a big difference in recent weeks, though. I know of at least 2 guys on my team who have been infected recently, and just found out the goalie of one of the other teams is infected.

In a span of 3 days, NC set an infection record and then broke that record by 15%. Roughly 1 out of every 20 people in the state has now been infected, and that number is rising so fast it's breathtaking to imagine where we'll be by January.

It's one thing to say "assume someone is infected and behave accordingly" as a rule of thumb, but at this point we're at "no seriously... the data says you should assume someone in this group actually is infected and get the hell out of here".

@Toonces & @wreckless Are there no open rinks where you’re located?

there’s a local futsal court at a YMCA 15 minutes from my house. I get that it’s by myself, but at least I get to run around and practice.

funny thing is, the court is locked and chained up. Because I am so skinny and small, I can just sneak in and play :nod::laugh:

I have also watched all of letterkenny twice during Covid, I get to work form home and its a perfect show to play in the background while I am working

Not since March when our rink closed down. They plan to open in Jan. but I'm far from optimistic.

A couple other rinks have been open since summer but I haven't checked them out. I'm close to at least joining friends at their ice rental nights for what is basically drop-in/shinny if my rink doesn't open soon.

Last I heard one of the local leagues was up and running. That rink also has pickup and stick & shoot.

The league I usually play in has been shut down since March. They were trying to restart soon, but I don't know if they got enough teams. One of my teams rented ice there for scrimmages, we start this Saturday.
