I hope it is a giant step back for 2023 picks and not this years.

Should avoid 2022 picks if possible

Horvat, Miller should be worth a first plus
Garland worth a 2nd or 3rd
Boeser, well may have to give him away due to cap mismanagement but hopefully a 2nd

This may be a 3 year draft plan.
Need lots of young defencemen
Need 6 top six players 3 of which have to be superior players

Might need to move Hughes and Petey to get enough high skilled players to stay within Demko's wheel house.

if our GM decides to trade Boeser, he should just re-sign Boeser for 2 years at 6.4 and retain a million to a million and a half, that puts Boeser value in line to what he’s worth and won’t hurt his trade value. Leaving it an unknown or having a team carry his full cap hit will likely lower his return. There’s ways around Boeser’s contract to make it not suck and were we have to expect a crap return.

he cant he has to meet the QA of 7.5 mil. There is no way around this rule. Even if they let him go to UFA he can't re-sign here.

its been said many times on here, he can get 15% off from that bringing it down to potentially 6.375 and given his play, I can’t see them not doing the max off from the QA.

lets say we have to pay him 7.5 million then… just retain 2.5 million and keep his trade value high, we’re not contending next year, and likely not the year after so keep his value up by retaining and get back pieces to help us move forward with the next group. Plus next offseason cap hit from Virtanen, Halak, Holtby come off which is greater than 2.5 million retained from Boeser at 7.5 million.

Team elected arbitration comes before QOs are due.

If the team can prove to the arbitrator that Boeser is overpaid or his QO is too high, the arbitrator can award a resolution that is 15% lower then players previous year salary. That's where the lower number is coming from.

  • Club Elected Salary Arbitration eligibility (first window):
    • Club electing for Arbitration in the first window must do so in writing by the later of June 15th OR 48hrs after the Stanley Cup final by 5:00pm EST [CBA Section 12.4(a)]
      • For the 2019-20 off-season, due to the postponed playoffs caused by COVID, the first window is the later of October 4th or 48hrs after the last playoff game played by the respective club
      • For the 2020-21 off-season, due to the postponed playoffs caused by COVID, the deadline is 24hrs after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Final
    • Player had a base salary greater than $2,198,916 in 2019 [CBA Section 12.3(a)]
    • Player had a base salary greater than $2,269,479 in 2020 [CBA Section 12.3(a)]
    • Player had a base salary greater than $2,138,212 in 2021 [CBA Section 12.3(a)]
    • Club electing for Arbitration in the first window can be made in lieu of a Qualifying Offer [CBA 12.3(a)(ii)]
    • Player cannot be awarded less than 85% of his previous years combined base salary, signing bonuses and performance bonuses [CBA 12.3(a)(iii)]

Interesting idea.
But what if he plays like this year again?

Pretty decent idea

He'll be gone in the off season. Hopefully for not too much of a dip in return. One of the contending teams will get bumped early and make a panic trade.

Colorado could lose 3 top/mid 6 players to free agency this offseason, including Kadri. Any of Bo and Miller at 50% would make a lot of sense for them. Let's hope they get kicked in the 1st round.
