Last year at this time under Boudreau, the Canucks seemed liked they had a breakthrough, and were poised to become a play-off team the following season. Of course we all know the Canucks got off to an awful start to this season, and continued to play awful under Boudreau up until his firing on January 22.

Here we go again. The Canucks look great under Tocchet.

So, do you think that this time the Canucks game under Tocchet will carry over to next season, and we will see the Canucks making the play-offs?

I vote yes every year we have these polls. I’m bound to be right sooner or later. So yes! And an AINEC for good measure.

Just to clarify, by ‘for real’ I mean a playoff team but not close to a contender.
I think with a couple of off season trades to clear up some cap and improve the D the team can make the playoffs. But we will have a better idea after the summer.

Despite any other positive signs, and ESPECIALLY if I vote yes, Hughes and Pettersson will suffer injuries in training camp which provide ample excuse for another terrible start and non-playoff berth,

No.

Things are slowly moving in the right direction. Obviously, something completely unexpected (like landing Bedard) could tilt things further, but management seems to be making smart acquisitions. Beau is looking all right. Hronek is looking dece. Kuze, too.

I am skeptical that playoffs are in the near future. The team still needs to sort out its backend and you'd think after how many years of the Canucks miraculously looking like world-beaters in March there'd be a grain of salt or two.

I think that they'll make the playoffs.

The playoffs is management's goal, and, really, it's not that difficult to improve the team enough to get in. They can expend futures such as Hoglander, Lekkerimaki, D-Petey, and their first in the coming draft to get out of a key contract or two and get the needed help at centre and on the back end.

But that won't mean they're for real. They'll be eliminated in the first round, and they'll soon start to fall back, with no help in the prospect pipeline coming.

They were never as bad as some made them out to be.

A mix of historically bad goaltending and lack of defensive structuring created the illusion that they were amongst the league's worst.

They definitely have a solid core to build from. I would like to see an emphasis on drafting and development over the next few seasons, particularly the latter. Building depth around the roster should get them back to being competitive within the Western Conference.

I don't see a path to contention, however this is the strategy management/ownership have decided to take.

Need a third option for the poll: "won't know until 20 games into next season"

They have had a favourable schedule and have played a couple of very ugly games recently, including Arizona and LA. Personally I'm leaning towards thinking they have an improved "culture" that will translate into being more competitive. But I'm not ready to say whether that will be ingrained in the longer term. They are also still a few moves away from being more than a playoff bubble team.
In order:
1. top 4 defensive LHD or a miracle in an OEL resurgence
2. 3C that is good on draws, matches up against top lines, PK specialist (Manny Malholtra clone)
3. growth in guys like Aman, Dakota Joshuajohnson, and Podkolzin
4. back-up capable of winning 10-15 games (Silovs might be that guy but it's a little early)
5. In a perfect world another top 4 RHD so Bear can shift down to the third pairing.

I guess I should have worded things better. What the thread asks, is this a preview of what to expect next year.

A qualified 'yes', assuming they address the biggest hole in their roster--the blueline. And that won't be determined until after the draft and July 1st free agency.

And of course everything relies on Demko staying healthy. If he were to go down again, then it's another trip to lottery land.

Make my day.
Yeah hard to say without seeing what they do in the offseason.

So I voted yes, because we know they are real... like they do exist and you could touch them, so that means they are real.

I've seen some pretty convincing AI generated fakes lately.
